Question Dell XPS 710 ?

Hey ho,

I'm thinking of buying a new PC to use as a music computer at home. I'll probably buy **** and ****. I'd be using loads of tracks and some samplers and soft synths.

Do you think this Dell will be the best one? Or is there any other that's more suitable. I wanna buy an "of the shelf" computer so I can take advantage of the warranty and support. Dell's got very good support here in Sweden.

Loaded: Intel® Quad-Core™ 2 QX6700 Extreme, 4Gb Ram, XP-Pro64, UltraSharp 30" WFP

Cheers,
L

A friend of mine got one of the earlier XPS models. He said the fans are super loud, "...like a jet plane taking off," I believe. So, count on having to buy some quieter fans and maybe some variable voltage regulators for the fans (Zalman makes one). I use Silenx fans. They're hard to find, but they have the one of the best CFM to noise ratio and can be almost noiseless.

Maybe Dell's upgraded they're cooling systems since last year. I hope so.

Be careful with 64-bit Windows. Makes sure your sound card or sound interface has good 64-bit drivers.

Just my experience.

Besides that it should rock... I'm jealous.
