assigning a midi controller in cubase sx

i recently bought the behringer BCR2000 and im having problems assigning the BCR2000 knobs/encoders to VSTi software knobs/parameters within cubase sx3.

particularily the LEARN function just doesnt seem to work at all!
i follow the exact steps/procedures in the behringer manual for using "learn" function, but i never even get to the point where the BCR2000 sais that it received the data.

steps:

1- hold "learn" button and rotate one of the knobs/encoders
2- send midi info from VSTi (by moving one of the software knobs i presume)

setp1 seems to work, but in step2: the bcr2000 is just waiting and not receiving any message/instruction from cubase/vsti.

am i missing something?
should i have something turned on/off within any cubase settings/properties?

im gratefull for any help with this especially from users whith both products (cubase sx3 & behringe BCR2000)

thanx!

im reviving this thread cause im desperate for help with this (i guess hoping that someone else who hasnt seen this post might know something)

but after further research, im learning (no pun intended) that this learn issue is a cubase problem, and not the bcr2000 like i originally thought.

i found this thread about it on steinberg forums:
http://forum.cubase.net/phpbb2/viewt...1069e6898877ff

it seems that cubase is pretty much the only sequencer out there which has mid-evil-era interfacing with external controllers.

unlike almost all other sequencers that have a basic "learn mode" where the user can simply click, choose learn, move knob....etc... cubase does not implement this. instead it has Generic Remote which one has to go through assigning each knob manually via code (cc assignments)....and its project specific! (not global)
also, one of the main issues seems to be that VSTis within cubase are not sending midi data out
(the above link of the steinberg forum discussion goes into this with more detail)

the bcr2000 works fine with live and reason, including the bcr learn mode process

i checked out the specs for cubase 4, and the new version does not even adress the issue as far as i can see.

..

is there a solution/workaround to this?
possibly some sort of 3rd party interface-plugin for midi assigning/control

my main objective is to controll VSTi's in cubase.
i want to assign each knob in the controller to controll a specific function (like filter cutoff) regardless of VSTi
(so i would basicly have a preset/screenshot for each and every vsti i use, so the same knobs would control the same parameters in vst synths)

what are my options, is there anyone that uses ANY midi controller with cubase to control VSTi's?
how do u go about recalling the assignment of what each knob does?

thanx!
