Because the initial release is intended for mixers who need to replace or augment kick snares and toms, we didn't do cymbals. BUT, you literally have a virtual drum locker of some of the finest drums in the finest rooms.

However, due to customer demand, we are doing a wide variety cymbals in the Z system for the sole purpose of making NUMEROUS sampler formats... some that we have in mind are Kontakt, Reason, Mach 5, SampleTank, Gigastudio, and EXS. We plan to offer these sampler CDs as a free upgrade to anyone who has bought the inital wav CD. No WUP here!

Is there a chance that down the road a set of four or even five toms could be added to the library? Rarely ever do I record at set with less then 4 toms.
Good news for you.. The Birch tom sizes are 10 12 and 14, the maple are 10 12 and 16. For four tom setups, I use the birch 10 12 and 14, and then add the maple 16. BUT, pitching the toms to the key of the song works great, and the 14 inch birch can be pitched down for some great results. Waves Soundshifter works great, but so does the Nuendo pitch shifting, as long as you don't overdo it.

Having said that, we might just sample another 4 piece tom set and offer it as a free download for current customers.

Drumagog allows you to tune the drums anyway you like.
Great feature for sometimes fine tuning drums to actual pitches that work in a given songs key in real time..
one sample[IE:snare] can be tuned to the low fat thing or the hi crack for different parts of the tune.
indispensable for methumbsup

will cymbals be available as individual wav files? as well as in the various sampler formats.
that would be most ideal.

Not only will cymbals be available as raw wav files, but its going to happen soon. I'm in the process now of gathering my favorite cymbals, but more importantly, we're searching for the right room that most closely matches my old Bang Recording Room in Boston so that when using the Z2s, it'll sound uniform across the spectrum. And like I said, its a free upgrade for current customers.

Group Buy is happening, cmon down!

Cymbals added to the pack for free, along with the various sampler formats? That's damn classy.

Is the Group Buy count on the page current?

Yes, the cymbal pack, the sampler maps, and the GOG will all be free. Eventually, they will all come on a series of discs when you buy the program.

The current Group Buy is 8, which means 2 people have signed up per day. However, the problem is, we have had a lot more sales then 2 a day, its just that the people were referred from sites other then gearslutz and aren't in the know. Because my superiors want this to be a gearslutz group buy, we are not allowed to simply add all customers to the group buy number, they have to request to be on it to either us or to George Necola. I assume this policy is for business reasons. The group buy is intended to influence gearslutz members to spread the word about the product in hopes that they will help out in the marketing of the product in order to bring the price down by getting more buyers. If Yellow Matter simply adds whoever buys the disc to the group buy, it would defeat this. I personally like the fact that you get money back. Yeeey. Money.

On the bright side, only 3 days have passed and 12 more are to come (group buy ends 14th) so I can see the number easily passing 35, so that everyone gets 50 bucks back to spend towards some other cool gear!

Gearslutz User Review from REG, reposted from New Product thread:

"Got the samples today and quickly did a test using Drummagog across the kick and snare of EZDrummer. Awsome sounds is what I heard comming from these samples. EZDrummer has a very good sound on there own, but when shoved in a dense mix they somewhat sound weak and lack punch. Steven samples took care of this in a big way, not a small difference, a large one. Tomorow my son a I are going to strap these sounds to his new CD of his band that he and his wife are producing. I have no doubt these samples will do the same here. The drummer in his band is not afraid of hitting the skins so it should be good. Thanks for the hard work Steven. I have being playing with sample sounds for some time now. In my opinion I dont think you will find better samples anywhere. These will save your butt someday or some poor drummer's butt for that matter. For the money, it's a no brainer. All the best."

This sounds good!

I don't mean to be pushy, but do you have an ETA on the other sampler formats? My sampler of choice is Kontakt. Will the samples come already mapped to notes on a keyboard?

It might be another month TOPS because we need to first do the GOG and then do the cymbal pack and THEN do the samplers. But we're working hard on it, and it WILL be a free update.

I just recieved the CD yesterday...

Today... my first listen.

I can't review this 100% yet since I've only had about an hour to fiddle with em. Will post again soon

I am currently working on a very dense nu-metal tracking... During a quick mix, I replaced the kick and snare completely with Steve's samples for fun just to test em out.

I loaded 4 different hits of the snare (one snare type) in Drumagog. Although I haven't tried the different velocities yet, just demo-ing them on there own, it sounds like they have very good dynamics and when needed, you can have hits from soft to very hard.

I did the same with the kicks as well.

Immediately after loading the samples, I did a quick level adjustment and instantly, I had mondo in your face drums! A-la- C.L.A style!! Oh yea.. I am not kidding, I am actually excited.

So... I strapped an RMS 755 accross the mix buss, pulling about -3db @4:1 ratio with attack @10 and release on slowest. This mix was on fire and no shit I had shivers.

I'm anxious to try them with other comps as well...

These are mixed drums, ready to server with no need of tweaking. I did add a slight reverb from the UAD 140 Plate and some from the KSP-8.

This is just a matter of prefference though...

the Z1 are simply amazing!!! and the Z2's is a nice room and I can see where these are going to fit in my agenda.

I can't go too much into details yet, but after the short period of time fooling around with the samples, I'm perfectly content with the quality and quantity.

At that, I am curious to hear what the cymbal expansion pack will bring to the table. If it's anything like the drums, it's going to f***ing rock!!!

two thumbs up Steve

Thanks

Jason

Also, ALL pages should now scroll perfectly in Safari, but a double check and confirmation would be great.

and now another demo: SLOW ROCK

this has a long and ringy Z1 snare, a deep and punchy Z2 ambient kick, and some punchy Z1 toms.
