Talk me out of a Core 2 Duo!

I'm gonna buy a macbook pro tomorrow with the following configuration:

2.16 C2D, 2GB Ram, 5400rpm drive.

Anybody who feels that's a waste of 2 G's speak now!

Primary uses:
Pro Tools
Max/MSP

Secondary Uses:
Development / C++
Final Cut Studio

As long as you configure your machine with 2 GB RAM, you should be more than satisfied.

I would consider the 160 GB perpendicular HD or go for a larger 7200 RPM external.

Go for the 2.33 GHz if you can swing the difference and don't forget to watch the refurb
pages for a C2D 2.33

Protools and Final Cut Pro are great reasons to go for the Mac Pro.

Don't even think about a refurb machine. I've had 3 and each had lingering problems. Even tho they had the stock Apple warranty screwing around with getting them in and out of repair sucked.

My attorney has one of the new 17" machines. He says it's the best computer he's ever had.

I was talking about a refurb C2D MBP and not a refurb of the previous Core Duo, Yonah model.

Most people have excellent results buying Apple refurbs as long as they buy directly
from Apple.

+1 (or 2 actually) for refurbs bought from apple. my last two machines have been as such - a dual G5 2.3 and a 1st gen black macbook. both rock solid, whereas an older powerbook I had bought brand new from apple (long since gotten rid of it) had a failed modem and hd...

It is very nice. Don't get one, you will never leave the studio.

Waste? Since you're spending 2K, why not go with a desktop?
More slots. You can run UAD. More ram and V-ram for your Final Cut Studio if you are heavy into video. Are you doing alot of remote work?
