Thread Starter | computer powering up but nothing on screen? well i just got a motu 24 i/o today with a 424 card. plugged it in. worked fine for a few hours. however, turned the machine off, and when i turn it on, nothing appears on screen. everything is powering up but nothing is displaying. no bios screen. have swapped the graphics card out, and still the same. have taken all the ram out, reseated it, tried one at a time, still nothing. taken all other pci cards out, still the same. what is it? a broken motherboard? i looked online, and it seems all motherboards are now pci express. does anyone still do normal pci cards? does anyone know what the best chipset is for music with an amd x2 3800 processor. one that wont have problems with the 424? sorry for all the questions, but im panicking! |

| don't panic too hard just yet. try this first: turn off the computer. unplug the computer (as in: "remove the power cable completely from the back of the computer, not just the wall"). wait about 5 minutes. plug it back in and see if it fires up. kell |

| I had a similar problem (after switching machine off i would have to wait at least an hour before it would boot up proper), although yours sounds like its happened since using the motu? got mine checked out and it was a broken RAM chip, works fine now.

| I guess that this problem is hardware related. You might have touched some cable or card inside the computer that finally disconnected during your power-off and power-on power button switches on the computer. Check all the LED indicator cables going to the chassis and also that all IDE cables are properly connected into the devices and into the motherboard. Also check that no cable touches any fan. Check that the monitor cable is properly connected at both ends. Remove the 424 card as you try to fix the problem. If this doesn't work the Motu card might have configured the bios in an invalid way causing some kind of device conflict. In that case, jumper it to reset state. If nothing seems to help the motherboard might have become corrupt. Before drawing that conclusion you can try to unplug one RAM module at a time, reboot and validate error status. Good luck! |

| One of my computers used to do that. I would replace the power supply if it happens again. |

| PC Moderator | good advice. I had the same problem, and I neeed to pull out the CMOS (BIOS) battery, make a short (with a screwdriver or something similar), but the battery back in, system booted. cheers George

| Lives for gear | i had a computer that used to do that on very damp days... it had something to do with moisture in the AGP connector on the video... i'd then have to remove the video card turn the computer on without the video card, turn it off, plug the card in, turn it on again and do this many times until it booted correctly. after i started putting some silica gel bags inside the cpu that stopped. |
