yea i didn't post it to single them out but think about it Dazed and Confused could be called a signature hit song for them and they just blatantly ripped that guy off. It was a world-wide hit for years and they still got away with it it doesn't make me think less of Zeppelin really their interpretation of this kind of music opened up a lot of people to listen to it plagarism in music is kind of a newer concept anyways from the last 200-300 years - there's only so many notes and repetition will happen.

| Lives for gear | Yeah, that's why I asked. Why do you think it is? a-d-b-l-o-c-k is benign and very useful as long as you make sure you support your favourite forums by disabling it (so you can click on their ads from time to time...this helps the forum's upkeep). And related to the Google discussion: we do in fact have the ability to design our own filters, we just have to learn how it works. Little-known Google fact: you will never, ever, find more than 999 single results for any search query. Try it. Don't trust the gazillions figure given to you. Try to get past 999 results. If you don't know how to check this I'll let you know how. |

I have it and I love it. You have the answer in your post. Not everyone is fair and buys their SW why should they click on ads from the goodness of their heart. Censorship is a known thing on GS. |

To test this: - goto Google "Search settings" - turn off Google Instant - select "100 results per page" - hit "save" - now search anything you like. Let's say the most popular, (work-safe) search query is: - obama There's bound to be more than 999 single hits of "obama"...surely? No. There isn't. Google says there is, says there are 1.5 billion hits in fact. Ok, now scroll down to the bottom of the page and click "page 10". - now scroll to the bottom of the page again and find that beyond page 8 there aren't any more results. Google have only displayed 774 individual search results for "obama". Even tho' they still proudly claim "1.5 billion hits". You read the message at the bottom, which says: In order to show you the most relevant results, we have omitted some entries very similar to the 764 already displayed. If you like, you can repeat the search with the omitted results included. - click on "omitted results included" Now go to page 10 again. Now go to page 11. No? Why not? There is no page 11. There are no results beyond the first 999 displayed, even including repeats and duplicates. Of course, there are many tens of thousands more real entries on the internet...but you need to know the key words to get there (and even this is arguable as Google are very shady about how much of the web they actually cover), or you need the direct link...otherwise you'll never find them.

I noticed that but I was usually searching for weird stuff that didn't had so much hits (over 999) and for the usual stuff I could find what I was looking for pretty on spot... But never thought of testing to see all the million hits.. Those privacy issues... the continuous mining of my life and desires. I'm thinking of ditching google altogether now.. |

....wow this has become an interesting thread. Thanks for the TED link, great stuff, if I wasn't already hugely cynical about Google and Facebook I would be now. Now I know why Mark Zucket turned down all those billions..... Anyway an interesting discussion. @Dubber: to be honest altougj I love a conspiracy as much as the next man...... I think he's/was probably clutching at straws there: how like a lawyer to do what he would probably try and suggest to his guilty clients: When all else fails: PLEAD INSANITY!!!!!!!..... However that said, as other people have pointed out : " COPYWRITE YOUR MUIC" " IT ALREADY IS " etc, etc. As I have found personally on more than one occasion if you have ideas people will steal them..... If they are good ideas. The most obvious and amusing historically recent example of this of course being the legendary meeting between Steve Jobs and Bill Gates....when job's accused gates of stealing his idea..... And the rest is history. Artists and creative thinkers will ever be exploitedl |

anyone had any problems with google and myspace over the weekends especially? (periodically) what ive noticed is when I try and go to any myspace site using google (just this last weekend), instead of going to the site it just reverts back to google. If i use another search engine i can get to myspace. so it seems something amiss with google and myspace or just google. I also get a strange swirling circling effect on google shortly after pressing a key. (happens once).

But then I read this ignorant post and now I'm a little offended. And I'm one of those bitter, incredulous, Marxist lawyers, so it takes a lot to offend me. I know you're better than that, Reptil.

Anyway for the record the original post confirms that our society is made out of hungry animals with no sense other than selfishness not moral conscious responsible humans. It's just like in the jungle but with evil intent involved. At least in the jungle it's beautiful until you get eaten |

that would be illogical.Lawyers are people with a training and work in a profession. Nothing more nothing less. I've never stated otherwise. They serve an important function in a society that relies on a State of Law. When that breaks down supposedly, and some game the system, identifying this is not a reason to critique the foundation of that system, or rather what it SHOULD be, but just to show it's been gamed, and is NO LONGER IMPARTIAL. That's the hypothesis I hinted for. I'm not going to explain myself further, I'm sorry to say, since that would violate Gearslutz policy, and will move this thread to the appropriate part of Gearslutz.

Also read the comments, some are insightful (some are not) Is that anonther "bubble"? Sure, all information "clouds" are, in some way. Only the galaxy is infinite. |

Anyway besides the moral and legal implications that are beautifully discussed, it should also be stated that this thing smells like a publicity stunt. Yep I just added more to the conspiracy! mwhahahahah Monkeyz would throw any kind of shit at each other just to get noticed by females in heat |

Well, okay then. I can't stay mad at you anyways. This would be a good time for me to point out that if there are any BrokeSlutz in Maryland who encounter copyright issues or other legal difficulties, please feel free to contact me and I will try to help, or at least find you someone who can. And I guess this sort of stuff really was funnier when the KLF did it. Why on earth would Abba have a problem with this? |

The KLF attacked the foundation of the music industry head-on. I'm very certain they didn't regard it as funny. When KLF destroyed all that money, they put themselves outside of the whole paradigm. Those were radical times, electronic dance music erupted, and groups of people detached from society (once again). Another example: Spiral Tribe is another example of this clash that took place throughout europe, and really shook society. It was beaten down with a heavy hand by governments, first in the UK, later in other countries, as it was a direct challenge to the structure and relations of power in our society. The industry in the form of large publishing companies has tried to incorporate the independent musicians, labels and recordshops into their money machine. Since it was rapidly changing, with a new sound every month, they couldn't put a finger on it at first. The whole thing was alien to them, though I did know a number of people working at major labels that did "get it". Of course we (the kids) weren't into an organised revolution of society, but it was freedom, and that was sufficient. So, for decade this popular music existed in europe. Part of it surfaced on mainstream TV channels in the second half of the nineties, the still growing MTV, and it's competitors in the form of local music tv networks. They tried to compete inside this marketplace, and support part of it instead of taking it over. That was quite positive. However, NONE of it reached the USA Mainstream, while a lot of the (talented) artists had always been (black) americans. No one in europe cared about what colour skin or social group they belonged to, since we were ONLY interested in their music. Our culture was FACELESS and DECENTRALISED!!! That a lot of Gearslutz have never even heard of this underground movement that has existed since the end of the eightties, means that our bubble didn't have an overlap with yours. So for me, there's more to the KLF than just a "funny ripoff". In a very competative environment, piracy doesn't really work, since it's recognised as non-creative and thus worthless. See the labels listed by this Modular Punk guy. So, I checked. He's listed on BPitch Control's website, but disappeared from Kling Klong. The jury is still out on that one, I guess. | Go ahead and rip off any artist from Astralwerks and tell me what happens. Labels have money not only to support their artists but also to protect them.
