| Lives for gear | Dutch Anti Piracy Organisation is going to sue the Dutch Government This is pretty sad I think (i'm sorry to don't have any english newsposts but a recap can be found below) SpitsNieuws : Thuiskopie gaat Staat aanklagen What happens is that the Dutch anti piracy organisation is going to sue the government because they want a tax on mediaplayers and harddisk drives. The general assumption is that there is a great potential that the medium would be used for illegal content. — And that's the saddest part. Because one industry dies, organisations like this already make every potential customer a criminal. A tax like this actually fuels the argument to download (we already payed a tax for it) for end-users. |

| Lives for gear | we had this in the states on blank cassette and dat tapes/players. it was during the 90s "home taping is killing music" era - if they only knew how good they had it back then... point is - I don't know that anyone really felt the effect of the tax - the major labels maybe split up a few million a year that got buried in the books somewhere - but I don't think I've ever seen an artist royalty statement that had a line item for "tape/technology tax credit" ![]() Quote:
