Best Pirate Tracker?

What's the best pirate tracker right now?

I would like to hear more about payartists.com, but they don't answer mails. So, who else?

The Top 35 Torrent Sites of 2009

See the top ~15.

Kind of embarrassing #1 is Canadian, but they're preparing for a court trial like TPB's. Hopefully that will set a new precedent up here when they get around to it.

Ha ha thank you, but I meant: What's the best way to track the PIRATES?

Which company is best to catch the thieves? I know there's a lot of development going on, but as of now?

That's not difficult I don't think. Anyone with a bit of code can monitor the open connections. Law enforcement agencies all have apps for this.

But there is absolutely no benefit in tracking individuals. The benefit comes from shutting down and making illegal the torrent sites those individuals rely on.

I respectfully disagree: Any individual pirate is liable for up to $150,000 per downloaded song -- that equals a nice bunch of gear for every caught thief.

I respectfully agree, this certainly has to be done as well.

Fortunately the RIAA disagrees and had stopped new lawsuits as of ages ago.

IMO, that is abusing the outdated law and no better than what pirates who similarly tweak the law to claim they are legal are doing.

It's not doing anyone any good. The negative press from 'bankrupting single mothers' far exceeds any benefit from financial restitution. It is also not an effective deterrent.

That is why the RIAA stopped. They are now, more wisely, focusing on those websites that organize and facilitate the piracy of millions.

Making torrent sites responsible for removing copyright material will be much more effective at forcing piracy underground and to the fringes.

Absolutely not, negative press doesn't harm at all as long as everybody in the biz gets it.

If people no longer dare to steal music, they WILL buy!

Nobody has ever stopped buying cars because they don't like the car industry. We NEED cars and since car thieves are sent to jail, we BUY cars.

RIAA is wrong. But fortunately, we don't have to choose between closing torrent trackers and suing pirates.

We can do both!

Honestly, what age are you??? 12? 13?

If everyone in the industry receives negative press for suing anyone who downloads the new Lady Gaga single, then there will be a backlash against the entire industry.

What are you going to do? Set up a vigilante organisation that has every downloader be it man, woman, or child arrested and sued? Think of how much court time that will take, and the man power required. All at the tax payers expense.

With one move you've managed to turn the whole industry into some authoritarian monster who will cripple anyone who dares steal britney's new album. The public dont like that.

Let's get back on topic -- any suggestions?

What's the easiest way to track and catch the thieves today?

The best way? Give them what they want, when they want, in exchange for a small fee. That's the future, like it or not.

Instead of all that stupid trials, why don't all the lawyers and executives involved try to find an alternative? A VIABLE ONE?

Yeah, that's right: GREED.

Yea, all the big bad lawyers and record labels are all greedy and we shouldnt pay for it cuz liek theyre all rich and sit in their corporations rooms in their big corporation buildings and act all corporation-y.....and then....then..................they make money.

Anyhoo..

Give them what they want Soul?

Music.

When do they want it?

Anytime

For a small fee?

Hmmm...£8-£10 per album?

Well let's see, I had this dream, in the future you can log onto this site called ITUNES and pay a fee to download music anytime this is the way it's gonna be, all these people here are idiots and just want money don't they...it was amazing, this is the future, and once I again I also predicted that you would embarrass yourself at every opportunity and be too ashamed to continue participation in the thread. Man really, the pirates should pay a small fee, yea, then they just go to the other torrent tracker and avoid the smaller fee while the industry still makes yet even less money.....awesome idea.

Considering the growing number of thieves that are caught, I'm surprised if no slutz have experiences with pirate hunters?

Come on, every pirate is worth up to $150,000 per stolen song -- this can become an interesting hobby for you!

In addition to payartists.com, I have looked at these watchdogs...

...but I'd still like to hear some personal experiences; services, prices, success rates, etc.

In France the police takes care of it . They arrested the people who had the biggest torrent site ( with servers abroad but they seized them too ) . Those people made hundreds of thousands euros . the greedy ones are not those Soulsensei thinks . Torrent trackers make lots of money .

Well, if the pirates are making a lot of money, why hasn't the industry set up a similar sistem where all those "profits" would be distributed among the artists? It's now clear how people want to have access to movies and music (ok I admit software may be another story), so why is the industry spendig millions pursuing pirates (losing a lot of money along the way) and not trying to find a legal plausible solution for making money? Îf there are so many lawyers and executives dedicated to bringing a very very small part of pirates to the courts, why aren't they trying to change the old and inefective business model? That's a simple question that no one here was able to give me an answer. Do the labels like to lose money to make a point?

Because :

1- They don't give anything to any artist

2- What is a lot of money for 10 to 20 people ( let's say Several hundred thousands Euros) is nothing for an industry . Deezer ( free streaming legal site ) makes 870 Millions Euros / year through ads, yet they give only 7O million to the artists which divided between all the tracks played represent something like 140€/year per song (for popular ones : 200000 plays). to be divided between record companies, artists rights , composers, publishers, legal side rights .

It's a business model that works only for those who hold the site , not third parties .

We're going through this now. A CD I produced was uploaded by some asshole at a radio station. It was up on the net in pirate sites before the actual release. Torrents has it, as do a few other sites that have the balls to sell it.

But if Swedish criminals steals your music, then French police can't do a thing, can they?
