has anyone ever gotten placements via Pump Audio?

I see a lot of threads about Taxi and such. Has anyone ever done any business through Pump Audio?

They want a SSN. I don't like giving that out. I will have to research more.

I just did a deal with Pump Audio, just to try it out.

It's a typical 'rename' non-exclusive deal: 50/50 on fees and 50/50 publishers "share" (100/0 writer's "share") on royalties.

I can say this: they screen all their stuff and are pretty picky - it's not like soundclick or anything LOL. I can also say that it's SLOW. After they were bought by Ghetty Images they basically shut down taking on new material until this past March. So I did a deal with them maybe a month ago and they basically said it will probably be six months before they add the material to their library. zzzzzz...... People should also understand that Pump does NOT shop your stuff. What they do is compile a lot of stuff and have it available for people to dig through in an audio database; they don't actually pitch anything.

I do a lot of licensing myself and figured I'd try Pump just to see if anything happens through them. If so, then it's extra money. If not, well, I'm not really expecting anything.

edit: they need your SSN for tax purposes so they can pay you. THis would be normal. If I licensed something for you and the money came through me I'd need your SSN as well.

Yeah they are slow...The PumpBox thing is interesting. Along from the mass of music on their site, they somehow also select the "best" music and put it on these networked hard drives they provide to MTV, Vh1, etc...who can quickly pull music from it. I don't the % of music on these hard drives compared to all the music on the site. It can't be a lot though.

Hey Dan P.
When you say where is the money do you mean they have not paid you yet or do you mean its not a lot at this point?

Interesting thread! I'm brand new to this so sorry if these are really basic questions.

If Pump Audio selects your music, do you get paid immediately or do you have to wait til they place your music somewhere?

Does anyone know what to expect in terms of payment per song?

Are these guys preferred over Taxi?

Thanks

I have nine songs signed with a new company slated to begin business as of Jan 16,09 so we'll see how things materialize.I'm optimistic at this point!

I just licensed a track with rumblefish which is a company like pump audio. I made a whooping.........................$25 for the license but it was for a companies internet promotion. Hopefully other stuff will come soon.

Unhappy

So I sent my submissions to Pump Audio on Friday and I got the green light today... On the website it says something like "Please allow up to 45 days for music to be reviewed..." Now, for me to get a response in less than 5 days (over the weekend, believe it or not..) is either saying 1 of 3 things:

1. They truly loved my music and see great things for my future with them. (which I hope is true...)

2. They don't really have any legitimate "screeners" and let anything get through....

3. They are another fly-by-night company looking for their next "victim"...

Not saying this is a bad thing, I'm just saying I haven't heard any success stories yet. I hear a lot of people SAYING their great/good but I want to know someone who actually got something PLACED.

Philly, Bgrotto, you heard any good things about them? Am I wasting my time? They seem legit...

I know Pump Audio intimately. In fact, I am very close friends with the gents who started the company (many of which still remain after the Getty buyout).

For one thing, I am in the fortunate position to have had many tracks in the catalog from the early days...... but, I get paid VERY well, and make a damn decent amount of money from Pump licenses.

Best of all, most of the music is throwaway music for me. Not real songs, per se. And it's non exclusive.

I can highly recommend Pump Audio. They are not scams, nor amateurs. They have a good process in place, that works.

And to respond to one poster, they do in fact shop your music, just not in conventional ways. It doesn't just sit idle in a catalog.

For qualification, my music has been used in:

Oprah Winfrey Show
various MTV shows
Anthony Bourdain
various Food Network shows
various Travel Network shows
Ellen DeGeneres show
Good Morning America
Discovery Network

the list goes on.....

You could also try Audio Network

they are pretty good too, and have an office in NY, and Australia, loads of top composers and I know from one of my composer friends who works with them that they are looking for new material. He's earn't loads on PRS and hasn't a bad word to say about them. Check them out Audio Network - Production Music Library Jazzy
