The Mbox goes to the studio monitors and has the MIDI from the FANTONX-R Rack plugged in...

Do you have the sound routed? MIDI is not audio, you know. Make sure you have audio tracks set up to monitor your MIDI input.

Are you bringing the midi in through just a midi track or an instrument track? An instrument track is the easiest. It essentially a MIDI track coupled with an AUX track so you can easily monitor you MIDI input.

Anyway, after creating an instrument track, make sure to pot the volume up because it defaults at all the way down, which could be what you're experiencing if you are in fact routing the Fantom though one. (That problem is fixed in 7.3 by the way)

In the edit window on the instrument track, do you have the 'instrument' view showing? Are the MIDI inputs and outputs within the instrument view correctly selected?

Also, check out page 297/ Chapter 16: MIDI recording in the latest Pro Tools Reference Guide PDF. It will be able to help you more than I.

Best of luck and welcome to the forum.

Get to your mix window. Click on the icon right next to the >>. Select 'instrument. Now at the top of your instrument track, you will see the midi input and output. Select all for the input, and your Fantom for the output.

Now, I never use outboard midi instruments, just virtual. So my info may be a tad off for outboard stuff. That's why I suggested you check out the Pro Tools Reference Guide. Just click on help in your menu bar within Pro Tools and select it from there.

cheers
