SciFi channel engineer you're FIRED

Geez I am trying to watch the twilight zone on the SciFi channel and the engineers "set it and forget it" compression (so the commercials can pop out at you at 120db is wreaking havoc on the tape based audio. It is FRIGGIN RIDICULOUS. Tape noise during quiet passages is literally pumping up 12 dbs or so.

I hate the whole commercials being 3 time louder than the feature thing, but **** man do they even listen to their programming at all?

Sounds terrible.

Seems the loudness war permeates everything

Well I love watching Discovery Science, and if they don't turn down the damn Enzyte and I-Joy commercials by at least 6dB I'm gonna kill somebody. thanks for the arena to vent.

This is a funny phenomenon. I presume it's meant to make the ads stick out more? All it really means is that I mute all ads religiously every time...

i think the higher engineers the way a auto parts house or hardware stores on and on and on higher help these days, the cheapest they can get : (
service is a thing of the past short of smaller niche market's and i am so thankful we still have some service oriented companies in the audio world.
not all but some.

I feel everyone's pain on this one. This has been so bad in our house that even my wife is bitchin about it and she is partially deaf in one ear. I am about to strap a comp/limiter accross the output of cable box to try and tame some of the programming that is 10db louder than everything else out there. It is not only commercials but just differences between channels as well.

Just explain to her that that old mono stuff originally done to tape suffers horribly with that compression. Hell have her watch the twilight zone. The tape hiss is insane

Complain to your cable company. Could be their fault. They've got gear that's supposed to control that.
