Question "GC PRO" isn't that an oxymoron?

I know this is petty, but hey, Moan Zone...

Don't these guys think about their audience?... I see a Guitar Center "Pro" ad banner scroll across gearslutz and I laugh.

(Hey, their money and may as well support us, but don't they read this forum?)

Dunno, may be just me, but does anyone else find this sort of funny, if not perfectly fitting for how clueless Guitar Center is?

I have as many nightmare stories about GC as the next guy, but now that I'm full time music, I've come to appreciate GC's Pro division. There are about 3 guys that work in the Hollywood store. They are not on the floor at all really, but upstairs in an office and are available to professional studios in the area. They offer courier services, so if you need something you can get it right away without having to go endure the GIT freshmen drooling over the Marshall stack on 10. I even asked one of the guys in Pro to send me some Strats just to check out. By the end of the day, I had 3 top of the line guitars to audition right in my studio with all my own rigs. Pretty neat. I know GC has a sketchy reputation and is kind of the fast food of gear, but I appreciate the service.

I've had nothing but luck with GC Pro in Sherman Oaks... although I'm in total agreement that GC employees are mongloids.

I've purchased over 100k of gear from them with no problems whatsoever. But I know this is the moan zone... so I will gracefully bow out of to allot this thread its maximum moaning potential.

Talking

No "moaning" per se, I just find it funny that they don't seem to know their audience here on Gearslutz...but perhaps that will change if the service is as you guys say above.

I'll admit, you never know

But for now, I can't even go into one of those stores without Xanax ...so I guess the idea of "Pro" and the delivery service you described is good.

BUT...I'm still going to stick to supporting the boutique people and dealers as much as possible.... For example, just being able to hear Dave Pearlman talk about his mic is a treat or shooting the breeze with Bruce from The Desk Doctor or Mike from Vintage King... these guys LOVE gear and it shows...

GC feels more like McDonalds. (And I bet they know as much about what goes into a burger )

Eh, rant over. I was just laughing at the "Wallmart" of music advertising here to people who seem a bit more, how should I say... "picky" about their business

GC Pro is definatly not a buddy buddy type dealer. They're in it for your sale. Funny though, when dropping large amounts of coin, they'll bend over backwards to make you a good deal... but when it comes to calling them up or buying less than $2000 dollars worth of toys they have a "Why the fu-- are you even calling us?" type attitude.

And it's more than that... It kills me when I've taken the time to research a piece of gear, I go into their "Pro" deparment and they try to give me some B.S. line and have no idea what they are talking about!

...and the irony is, we have a thread here with a few responses and then some lame complaint on another thread about Vintage King who DOES know their gear inside and out has all this activity (albeit in defense of their great character)

THAT guy who started that thread needs to go to GC Pro!

I have shopped at Vintage King and at GC Pro and I have to say the GC pro guys knew more about digital audio than the guys at Vintage king. Plus GC Pro answers the phone, Vintage king doesnt... there are smarter and more experienced than both, I suppose, but when it comes to service and getting a deal, how can you beat GC's prices? If you know your gear, GC pro is a good choice. Vintage king is a gimmick and they know very little about digital audio as far as I can tell.

Geez......with a name like Vintage King....whodda thunk it?

I'm gonna find a classic car broker and ask him when he's getting the '07 models.
