| The term used to be real common in the '50s and '60s. I think it originated in the military. Headphones didn't become common in studios until the mid 1960s.

| why would i say "headphones" when i can say "cans"............maybe i am just lazy they are still reffered to as cans in theatre circles and if you are like me and work in theatre as a day job then yes i still call them cans (and probly always will call them cans out of shear laziness).

famous, not famous high-brow, low-brow. although i can see your point, i dislike it when live house engineers say "wedges" instead of "monitors." "cans" is just universal it seems. | |

| Look at the size of that rack! Wrap my cans around your ears. 'Cans' have been used for ages. It is quicker to say than 'headphones'. Everyone knows what it means. Can I get more IQ in the cans, man?

| It's definitely OK to call them cans. This happens in my studio all the time. "OK, NOW... GRAB HER CANS AGAIN... NO, THE OTHER ONES... NO, WAIT... Never mind." |

| Lives for gear | I think it´s a trend coming from Argentina, where it´s normal for guys to do that in general.. but here it´s the cool ¨musician¨ way of showing their love. if they could only play I would even kiss their asses. i´m in my anti musician motif these days, hate them all. assholes. |
