Ahh, the NI-versary offers...

So one would pretty much expect that updates were coming when suddenly a few long-in-the-tooth programs were half price or better... I bought FM7, and of course, right after the offers were up FM8 is announced. Fair enough, I can still buy the upgrade and get into it for less than full retail cost. Not the end of the world.

But I also bought Guitar Combos... as I already have Amplitube, I had no need for the full Guitar Rig but figured that Combos would be fun for some basic amp tones.

Just found out that it's been completely EOL'd... no update, no upgrade path, and no UB support will be added (I bought it when UB support was 'on the radar' for it, they've only changed their minds in the last few days). So I'm stuck.

That dfegad me off. I also have B4II and a B4D... I think that I'll pay the extra 29 euros to get that to UB when it's ready (I do have a need for it, unfortunately, and since there's a small hardware investment involved..) - that will likely be the last money that NI ever sees from me. I'll get a bit more use out of Guitar Combos on my G5 but I'll have to find another option now for my Macbook... Amplitube is a no-go as well as I'm not interested in dongle number four.

** sigh **

There's a whole other rant on BIAS and the amount of time it's taking them to get RTAS versions of the Master Perfection Suite out let alone UBing everything other than Peak.

fuuck software.

After many years of experience with this kind of thing, I now only buy software if it is currently available for my current system. No hoping, no wishing, no promises from manufacturers, no vaporware, no good intentions, just "does it work with my current system today?".

This way I always am able to use what I buy for a predictable period of time that is in sync with my hardware cycle. And the other good side of it is that I don't get as frustrated with software companies that don't make good on promises, since I don't buy anything based on promises alone.
