| Have i lost it? Im in a very akward position these days. Im having a very hard time getting any work done! I sit down in front of a mix and im utterly uninspired and cant seem to get things going. usually i listen to the first pass and i get an idea what to do ....now i hear ....nothing! I have been here before (actually i reach this point every now and then) but it has never been such a long period before. I do a lot of music for ads in-between my album mixing so i spend a lot of creative energy every day. I have had ONE week of in the last two years, apart from the occasional weekend...seriously! Arghhhh....... At the moment it seems that i need four days to complete a days worth of work??? Im starting to feel like a burnout here.... What to do ? I cant take time off as i have to finish two albums in the next couple of weeks , not to mention all the ads before christmas. What can i do to feel inspired and rejuvenated? I guess this is mostly just a rant but id love any ideas as to how to break the "writers block"....please....pretty please. |

| You need to get away from the music for a couple of days, and do something totally different. There's a lot of feelings and emotions in this kind of work(as there is in every work that has to do with any kind of art), and feelings wear you out. We all go trough this from time to time and that's the way life is. 1 get yourself a girl. 2 or a man. 3 or 2 days drinking marathon. 4 new gear. 5 more new gear. 6 travel 7 ride a bull 8 rob a bank 9 another girl 10 or man Now you should be able to work again. |

I pray to god that this will help me although iŽll probably go mad doing nothing..... IŽll take the dog for a walk ....long walk .....IŽll walk around town with my dog for two days. thanks for the advice although i kinda knew the answer to this one.... IŽll report back and tell you if this will work.:) ![]() |

| Jules That is you to a tee. Ultima Sounds like you are understandably burnt out. Creativity is like a muscle, overuse wears it down and creativity needs a lot of feeding, you sound underfed!! Aside from maybe checking out books and articles written on this subject eg. Sound on Sound mag has done at least one article on creative blocks, if I were you I would do some enriching stuff, new food, people, experiences.... You might just want to filter it into your schedule, sometimes a tweak is better and less overwhelming than a blast or take a chunk of time out if you fancy... good luck!

| Wear some really hardcore earplugs, sit in an already quiet room, and don't move. Continue to do this unitil you can't take anymore. Afterwords put on what you consider to be the worst music in the world, listen to it until you see why you must continue to produce and engineer. Finally force yourself to only use Reason for a whole day out of a mackie and some alesis monitors. That should do it. ![]()
