Left out with the trash :(

Whats up with digidesign man?

I spent 15k (uk) on a system - 2 years later they don't even support it anymore...

I understand that they've got their fancy new HD system - which I won't be upgrading to after this treatment - but thats no excuse to turn your back on the thousands of people that have invested in your product.

I just logged on to find out about any new plug-ins out there and there isn't even a mention of MIX systems at all.

It's like they never existed...

Way to push your loyal users back to native systems - especially with the G5... PT has become, for me - another high end rip off.

Sad but true,
There really aught to be a class-action lawsuit, no doubt.
I remember the bad feeling I had when only after about 2 months of purchasing lap5, Emagic had discontinued pc support.
I can only imagine how ripped off MIX users must feel.

The reasons to hate digidesign are far too numerous to list here, especially for those of us that have dealt with their nonsense for 10 + years.

However, they still own the market, they don't care at all, and all the complaining in the worl will not help (though I myself have been known to vent rather loudly on the DUC.)

Unfortunately, you need to just live with it. Accept the (many) good things about Protools and let Digi make you insane no more than one hour a week.

-Of course, venting online will make you feel a little better, and will REALLY please Fletcher and Mixerman!

Not for long at the rate theyre going.

I dont care if they dont support the mix+. They never really did anyways unless you couldnt figure something out or had broken hardware.

As for their ripoff upgrade, I think I'll go for Sonic or Sadie when the time comes.

Not to repeat myself adinfinitum, but anytime I buy gear I PLAN for its obsolesence. Maybe at 37 i'm just old, but i look at all this stuff with filtered glasses that help me determine a piece of gears':
1) ability to service existing clients better,
2) ability to gain new clientel,
3) resale value at payoff point.
For me, the mix(++++whatever) system was the first DAW that you could actually track and mix a record on. My 3 mix systems continue to generate revenue 2 yrs after ROI. I have many issues with digi, but geez, IMHO, when compared to my investment in conventional 2" and large format consoles, ya kind of had to be asleep at the wheel to not take advantage of the profit potential of these systems.

Even though I am pissed as I went HD and the new upgrade offer sucks.. I went HD as I was updating the convertors anyway, costs the same and got extra DSP for almost free in the upgrade.

Nothing will stop you staying where you are and using what you have now. Just because a new release comes out it does not cause your old system to stop. There are still PT3 studios around locally.

I will hold out on the upgrade cycle this time.
I am still working out if I go OSX and 6.?
I do not get anything I really need out of OSX.

That leads to another point...

Ok I gotta say - I love my PT System. I record and arrange in LAP6.3 and then bounce everything to Tools for the mix.
I'm not bashing Digi for the sake of it :D
I just feel severly let down and cheated. But you're right - I'll just have to get over it

Also Yes, there are a bunch of studios still running PT3 systems - but it's no fun going to the party in last years sneakers is it!
But along these lines this raises another question - and one which I was told from an Emagic rep (probably not the most reliable source) was digidesigns descision too.

The fact that a whole bunch of the features in LAP6.x are not available if you use a TDM system. Like ;

'Freeze' - great free up your DSP power by bouncing - Nope

'Native Plug-ins' - Nobody can argue the usefulness of the Tape Delay & Auto Filter - Except TDM users that have to pay for them seperatly. And on the same note - YES - I do have the ESB TDM Bridge - But come on - has it been purposefully designed to confuse us?

'Offline Bounces' - Speed up your bounces - Nope

And don't even get me started on 'No Interleaved' files issue. I understand that Digi-systems don't read them - that's cool - but please somebody design a better way of handling stereo files within Logic.

It's almost like Digi & Emagic don't want you the 2 systems to live together... Although Emagic do seem to be the ones making all the effort.

Somebody posted earlier that Digi have their grip on the market - so they don't care.

Well the same goes for their Avid systems too. But times are changing fast, a dude at home on a cheap PC can gain similar if not better results with a bit of nice outbaord. If they don't give a little they could find themselves with a one-way ticket to the Costa -Del- Betamax..

Especially at a time when the music industry is in recession and the movie business is being hit hard....

Come on guys wise up - You have a great product - don't kill it with greed & a narrowminded attitude.

Whats wrong with the ESB Bridge ? I use it every day, there are absolutely no problems. For me, it's the best of both worlds. I record on PT trax and can play them back via the ESB Tracks, using all those nice little plugs, that never made it up to PT. All my Softsynths are running via ESB, so whats wrong here ?

You can use the freeze function on your native tracks. Just do it.

You really do offline bounces ? I prefer to hear, what I bounce instead of having a fast bounce and check this later. and btw, I had some rotten freeze files too.

No interleaved files is a real mess, but after 11 years I'm so used to it, that I almost don't see it.

Pro Tools and Logic is a real good team, what I would like to have is a possibility to route Native Plugs back on PT Tracks (Space Designer)

cheers, kosi

Yeo Kosi,

I'm hearin ya...
I use the ESB for all my soft synths too. I never said it didn't work - Its just a pain to hook it up... For morons like me

Yeah Space designer is awesome.

That would be one mean puppy if you route that into tools somehow.. Come on some clever boffin out there can make a VST-Wrapper kind of app to work this - surely

Why not try a Nuendo DAW instead? The investment is only around 1/4 of the price of a Pro Tools rig including everything (get any AD/DA converters you want, a RME Card and a couple of UAD-1's) as well as the computer, and in my opinion it's one step ahead of Pro Tools, especially if you want to do Surround.

The main reason for sticking with Pro Tools is that it's still the standard IMO.

Oooh, I'm asking for trouble from the Pro Tools people.

Regards,
Magnus
