PreSonus "Produce me" ad

Why would PreSonus think that someone wants to open up a pro audio magazine and see this ad that is almost as thick as the magazine itself, has sticky goo all over it, and has a huge pimply faced kid with the words "Produce me" on top? This has to be one of the worst ad campaigns ever.

dfegad PreSonus ad.

Seriously. At least the old one had a good-lookin girl on there. Now it's just some pimply teenage boy! The first thing I do when I get my copy of Mix into the studio is rip that shit out...The second is throw the magazine away entirely.

yea, I miss the old ads, at least when you're sitting around with your buddies you can crack jokes

"Yeah, I'll produce you, the casting couch is right over there"

"I'd produce her...chest"

"She's making me produce something..."

Presonus, I love them to death, I really do but their target market is not the people that the pimply kid would go to to "produce" them. They're trying to sell to that kid so he can put another bad demo together and create a new Myspace Band account...

I am so glad I am not the only person who is thinking about this! I have a hard time not ripping the page its stuck to and frankly I am not sure anybody who is reading MIX is going to run out and buy anything from Presonus or want to produce either the pimple kid or the dumb looking chick. This combined with the passing of the beloved Stephen Saint Croix are making me look forward to MIX that much less each month.

Some times Marketing and Engineering departments don't communicate with each other. Sometimes they do, and Marketing wins out anyway.

I love Presonus. They are passionate about our industry, their products, and their place in our industry. I have to assume this was a Marketing decision, either made in a vacuum or done under protest from some in their Engineering department. Or maybe I'm way off base, and this campaign is a hit and I should shut up.

I can say from experience that the combination of musician-centric engineers, savvy sales and marketing, an open dialog with end-users and a great relationship with its dealers made Eventide the powerhouse it was in 1987-1997.
It didn't hurt Empirical Labs too much, either! Nor Chandler nor Tonelux. But what do I know, I've only been doing this for 24 years.
