New Emmylou Harris CD

Is my copy faulty, or does it really just sound like complete horseshit? There is distortion ( not the nice Lanios variety ) all over the vocals.. her voice sounds like it was recorded at about +40 on a 12 bit sampler. Why, Why , Why can this happen? The music and soncs on the CD rock, the sone she wrote about June Carter is stunning, but next to unlistenable... please someone tell me I have a bad dupe or something...

Steve I totally agree.

Really sad when you consider the quality of the artist vs. the quality of the product released.

I know Nika has addressed this issue before, and its a volitile dead horse, but I found the same thing on the new Dave Matthews Solo project.

I actually took both cd's out of the home system and over to the shop so I could see if I was just hearing stuff, but unfortunalty it was there as well.

I'm not sure if this is a product of mastering or mix design and I really am not interested in finding out, it is just a little dissappointing...quickest ear fatique I've ever experienced.

The the Steve Earle Cd, "jerusalem" believe it or not, it is way worse.

What a depressing phenomenon.

I heard one clip off of "Jerusalem" and hung it up.

BTW, I've been listening to Coldplay today. I'm not sure what the title is. The mixing is a little too straight ahead but all in all sound is musical on the engineering end even though someone played it safe.

My current moan is Carla Bley's Looking for America, where it appears the trombonist got right up on the mic and they were stuck with incredibly distorted tracks. I first listened to it on a system in our living room and I had to stop the disc and take it down to the control room to check: I thought my kids had damaged my tweeters.

Everybody is complaining about this phenomenon for over the last years. Yet nothing happens, it's only getting worse.

We must get rid of this crap, they're killing my art, help!!

BTW, who recorded the Emmylou CD? And who did the mastering?

Though I haven't heard the Emmylou cd, I'd like to add the latest Madonna product to the list.
I think even I could have done a better job controlling the sibilance.
It's unbearable.
