Horrible Live Performance Thread

Came across this video of one of my favorite bands. Look at the faces of the audience.
FFS man, sing in key!

I'm not an Animal Collective fanboy or anything, but I don't see what's wrong with the vocals in that video, I thought it was quite good (though the vocals were mixed too loud for my tastes).

Not quite as good as this vocal performance, is it?

EDIT: Verve, how can you list Ibanez artcore guitar in front of a Gibson ES-335.

Listen to the original and compare:

Just how I wrote it, but good point! LOL! Don't under estimate the Ibanez AC. It is beautiful sounding even before I got rid of the stock PUPs.
Surprised someone hasn't called me on the Gaia before the Prophet 08.

YouTube search - MeatLoaf - AFL Grand Final.

Do it now. If you last the whole performance, 10 interwebs to you.

Neil Schon having a bad night...check it out around 3:18. Albert King's reaction is priceless (and would've scared the crap out of me).

One of my favorite terrible performances: Carlos Santana may be a Latino, but playing Pentatonic scales in the wrong key doesn't work very well in Latin music...or any other style. Nice playing against you Carlos...

To post youtube:
Put the word in caps YOUTUBE between brackets [YOUTUBE]
Then copy and paste the URL text only AFTER the first = sign (some url's have several equal signs.)
Then type YOUTUBE between brackets only with a slash like so [/YOU****]
I had to **** out the TUBE in the example or it would have posted empty.

Funny you might mention Schon and Santana in the same thread... many years ago, Santana played a concert here in my home city with Schon on guitar as well. According to a much older friend of mine (I was far too young to attend)... Schon played about 32 measures of a solo in the wrong key.

What were these guys on? LOL #evengreatsfail

I don't hear what was so out of tune here. And Banderas sure sings well!

Not out of tune. I haven't analyzed it, but it sounds to me like he plays in a pentatonic scale in the wrong key, with just enough common notes to get by. Notice how his playing never comes to rest? It just sounds wrong...wrong approach, wrong artist for the song.
And yes, Banderas sounds great...despite having to sing against Carlos.

I hear what you're saying. I guess that's just the nature of Carlos' playing. He's more blues than latin in that regard.

I should have his problems! LOL

I imagine an executive producer that knows nothing about music making the decision "hmmmm...it is a latin song. We need to have an electric guitar player. Carlos Santana is a Latin electric guitar player. Call Him."
Carlos Cavazos of Quiet Riot would have been just as appropriate of a choice

Excellent point, Elvis (using my Lord's name as his surname). Cavazos may have played a better part too, in this instance. LOL

Amazing performance.
Just so you know, they performed this version of My Girls at midi fest in 2007.
The album version of My Girls was released in 2009.

So which one did you say is the original again?
Why would you compare the studio track to the live prototype they made 2 years before?

Sounds fine to me - like humans singing, song was probably still a bit experimental at that point.

A few years can make very substantial differences.

Really> Seriously? You don't think singing in key would improve this slightly? What about singing in a rhythm somewhat similar to that which is being manufactured by the sequenced (non performed) keyboard part?

Do I think it was a perfect performance; no I do not.

Do I think it was well done; no I do not.

Do I think it was good; yes I do.

It has a vibe and a messiness I appreciate, it is a little yobby, and off rough like a bunch of guys drunk at the pub at 1A.M. singing or trying to sing and getting close, but most of all there is a little emotion in it.

Perhaps we have different tastes, but I appreciate the organic nature of it, more so than the recorded version. It may not apeal to a modern hyper-correct ear but I like how it resembles a warm bow of pudding of sound, with a dash of rhum and and a pint of whiskey.
