Thread Starter | The Dark Knight OMFG BAD!
OMFG no words,
I feel I was dehumanized after watching.
Had to go home and watch "Casino" and "Reservoir dogs" but I fear that after watching Batman that I may have suffered some permanent damage!
What is up with that?
Was this film for fans only?
So many themes all combined into one horrible all you can eat happy meal. |

My thoughts exactly. The Dark Knight wasn't too good either, this was worse though. The end in particular. I needed Waterworld, twice.

It was not all bad,
The sound design and field audio work was incredible. Isn't that what we're supposed to be more concerned with around here?

Every movie is cut too fast now. Thank you MTV, Jerry Bruckheimer, Michael Bay. I can't even watch most band live show videos. Cut, cut, cut, cut, cut, etc... Who the hell see anything like that with their own eyes?
From what I've seen of this film, it's another one in the bucket.
Sooner or later, the new Hitchcock will appear, the public's attention span will increase and style will return. Too bad about Chris Nolan. After seeing Memento I thought he was it.
Can't happen soon enough for me. I teach a film editing class, and so many of my students use fast cut to cover poor shoot and lack of story. Who needs that stuff when you have fast cut.
a good read... Attention action directors: Shaky cam and fast editing needs to go away |

I think it got just the right pacing. Maybe the trailers or preview you've seen of it are edited differently ( american film trailers are always cut at blinding speed, even a film about a reclusive meditating monk will be cut epilepticly fast ).
I agree that everything is cut too fast now. You can't sink into the scene anymore.

While I liked Batman Begins the fast cuts above all made The Dark Night unwatchable for me, although Ledger was brilliant. Havent watched the 3rd movie so far. Is it cut just as fast?

I too was annoyed by the pacing/editing. I thought the dialogue/writing was pretty lousy as well. The saving grace for me were spectacular performances by almost all involved (particularly Ms. Hathaway, and no not just because she's extremely easy on the eyes).

It wasn't bad. I would LOVE to see Nolan direct a movie like Heat or Goodfellas. He action movies are intense but something more "real life" would be awesome, IMO.
My fave Nolan film is The Prestige. So underrated!

I though the whole idea of a bomb threatening mass destruction and a timer on it was super original. Oh wait . . .

a good read... Attention action directors: Shaky cam and fast editing needs to go away | I agree fast cut editing can 'go away now please' but on the recent film I just worked on, we had it to mainly cover up bad acting/takes.
But with the budget on this film, there is no real excuse. Unless the director wants it, or under pressure from producers to do it |

I think this movie is suffering most from too much hype. Since the last movie made roughly 1 billion in profit, there was expectation for this to up the ante, which is no small feat.
I didn't enjoy the plot as much as the previous movie, but it was entertaining and I don't regret going to see it by any means. Opinions vary, but IMHO the audio and visual production was excellent.
For those complaining, would you rather return to the George Clooney / Chris O'Donnell "Batman and Robin" era?

The best thing about the whole movie was the guy from Third Rock From the Sun. He nearly gave it some class and depth but couldn't stop this movie from collapsing under it's own weight.
I mean even Michael Caine was terrible. The "foreshadowing" scene where he's at the table in the restaurant (used to set off the end of the movie) is literally the worst scene he's ever been forced to take part in in his whole career. In fact I'll go one step further and say it might be the most forced, artificial, and downright embarrassing foreshadowing scene in the entire history of cinema. And the reprise scene is just as bad.
If you wanted to see a superhero movie this summer Avengers was it and Spiderman was good fun too even if the Lizard character was executed terribly.
And the music? Ugh.

Was totally disappointed myself. The hype might have had something to do with it, but I definitely felt MOST of the acting came across forced. The main thing u see with Bain was his eyes. Which were like a puppy dogs. And boy did they capitalize on the Alfred almost crying scenes. And the way that bike flops around anytime it turns because the wheels are totally useless at high speeds.
I want a violent bat man. Dark and truly twisted.

This movie was AMAZING! Easily the best of the three.
One of my favourite movies of all time.
Goes to show how subjective all of this really is...

THAT'S exciting to watch, no sappy good guys, and the bad guys get their just desserts. Catharsis.
