That's ultimately why all social media are doomed the same way that MySpace was. The more highly visible they become, the more they will be targeted for activity that makes their value purely specious. People will never control their urges to play such systems for their own advantage. Any amount of latitude required to make the site valuable also makes it vulnerable to abuse.

I don't use them anymore, other than some light usage of LinkedIn, just on the off chance it might be of business use. But the degree to which they allow user activity it seems to be heading in the same direction as MySpace, with lots self-pimping and spammage on the discussion groupy oriented parts of it, at least the ones I've looked at, and those are probably some of the ones least likely to suffer from that sort of thing (i.e. the most geeky ones.)

It's amazing that people still think this will make you successful. 10,000 fake likes doesn't really look good when you can see the bands posts and nobody responds to them or interacts with them.

I think that, in the longer scheme of things, one of the most 'powerful' aspects of the internet has been that it finally created a scenario in which companies could sell back to people their own egos, on a broad scale.

Bands spend too much time on useless shit like this when they should be working on their craft. I shouldn't really talk though, should be recording right now.

Check out fiverr.com, you can get LOADS of likes for 5 dollars. If you so wish. But, to each their own. I dunno if I'd prefer real likes from kids who actually like my band's music or bots. That said, FB ads were more expensive and gave me entirely bots so, really...

When the world finds out what the Facebook scam the M.Z. is running in Mountain View there will be a huge online backlash.
He is going to end up like the executives at News of the World "Claiming" they knew nothing about it. Now they are in deep trouble.

So...let me get it right! We do still need major labels for marketing or we can still believe in DIY which usually passes through social media?

If they build one, I'm starting a company that sells dislikes and applies them to a competitor's page.

Wow, never saw this before. That site is full of Seriously.. you'll find some great laughs on that one!!

Myspace had multiple "buy friends" programs back in the day. I guess there is always a loophole for these sort of things.
