Logic's Tempo Curve (drawing, editing, etc)

The way this thing has been designed makes almost no sense to me. Creating a simple curve in areas where one wants to is seemingly a borderline impossible task, when it should be as easy as clicking a button.

Am I missing something? Or is this thing among the most horribly user unfriendly pieces of garbage ever incorporated in to an industry standard piece of software?

I don't get it? Why won't it make a curve in certain places? In some spots it's just as easy as it should be, in others it's an utter impossibility. It just creates a bunch of new nodes with hard tempo changes, and it absolutely will not allow me to just make a curve. What gives? I can't believe that Logic could be this horribly inept with such a simple procedure.. it must be me.. there must be something to this I'm missing.
