$699 for sony mdr-7509HD headphones?!!?!

Headphones broke so I begin looking around at prices and for any deals, when to my surprise i see: SONY MDR7509HD Professional Studio Headphone MDR-7509HD | eBay


Their response:

Hi
this model is no more available from Sony
i have to buy from retail for a very high price

They probably came out with a better version. I don't recall any market fo vintage headphones, not like an old Oberheim synth! LOL

I believe these replace the 7509's: Sony MDR-7520 Studio Headphones | Musician's Friend

I tried out the 7509 in 2010 and these at AES 2011. Both of them have a very dull quality to them. I'm sticking with my 7506's! Even though they are 'hyped" I know how they're supposed to sound when the mix is good. But I don't really use them to mix anyway, just as a secondary check...

That's odd...they were only like $200 new...I could see the price going up like that if they were, like, the NS10M of headphones, but if anything it's the 7506 that people have been using for years...and they're still available, probably for a reason.
