Where do you meet collaborators and band mates?

This isn't really a moan (but it can be): Where do you meet collaborators and like minded musicians to work with in this day and age?

I've got a great little studio and ideas, but finding great characters to work with is not always easy.

In my own mind.
Seriously, I have been done with bands for a while now. Only instrument I don't play is drums
But I go to a lot of local gigs and music stores. If I have a need, I post a flyer at the store or meet at the gig.
I generally scope them out like have lunch and converse before hand so I know they arent't total F%$#k-ups. Or worse yet junkies or thieves.

Meetup.com - find a meetup for songwriters there, and always good to have an instrumentalist around (that isn't guitar/ukelele etc), and people do collab after that.
