Thread Starter | Mixing and Insecure Arrogance...
So, I've wondered this for a while, but why does this pursuit (mixing) seem to attract really insecure people who pretend to know more than they do, tossing off their "truths" about mixing like it's gospel, and often showing their ass for the insecure "masters of the universe" wannabes that they are? I've met some real pricks in the industry, but you know, strangely, the most talented and skilled mixers I've met were refreshingly cool cats. Don't get me wrong, they're not push-overs, but a certain balance of assertiveness and sensitivity (sonically and in real life) was common. Is there something about the nature of this job that attracts that 'type'?!? |

I'm more disturbed by the ones having material mixed and mixed and mixed again. They all seem to suffer from obsessive compulsive, bi-polar, neglected child, abused child and a whole slew of other dissorders.

With bands, engineers, producers, etc. I have found that the ones that talk the most know the least. The quiet guy in the corner will blow your mind if the big mouth would let him talk. I guess this is true to everyone and everything in life.

I had exactly the same discussion with a colleague the other day and at the end of it I realised that every engineer has some kind of OCD that prevents them from willingly letting go of something they feel uncool about. The point being I've never met an engineer who doesn't put their all into a session. And judging from the posts on this site no-one here wouldn't either..... We're all a bunch of Forrest Gumps!
