IMO you're the one being unreasonable.

Just get your own shades and turn up the light in the studio, so that everyone puts theirs on...then you'r all rock n' roll

Maybe it's a subconsious desire to distance your name from his.

Calm down. I think anyone wearing sunglasses inside is a dork. I just see all these cats wearing shades in studios which are already dark to begin with. To all you wearing shades in the studio what's the deal?

Perfectly calm. Just expressing my opinion. What does it matter to you! Your perception is that they are dorks. Thats an opinion. Personally if the artist wants to wear shades and gives a stellar performance so be it. The fact they cant see anything is there problem haha! Personally i wouldn't wear shades in a studio or a club. Both places this happens. My point is that this moan is a totally subjective thing.

What someone wears wether it be shades a hat or scarf in a studio is not detrimental to the session. If it bugs you then my response is get over it. Not everyone thinks the same way. Be sensitive to that.

That being said this is the moan zone so moan away! It doesn't need to make sense...and i dont need to agree.

The deal is simple! Its a fashion statment. Funnily enough i often wear caps in my studio..why? because it makes me feel more in tune with the music im making. I know i know stupid but it does! Like lucky socks. If an artist says its what makes them feel comfortable and i know ill get a good take then so be it. I dont let pety things like this even enter my subconcious and in my opinion neither should you.

I just couldn't figure out why you said your the one unreasonable ... didn't really make sense. I could give two shoots less what people wear. I was just wanting to hear a response from someone who actually wears them in the studio, not a lecture from a guy who wears a hat...

well either they are a dork trying to look cool
or they don't want people to see their either bloodshot eyes or super dilated pupils.

Haha! 'guy who wears a hat' had me chuckling. This is the moan zone dude! I gave you my opinion. Like i said it's just fashion. I doubt there is any technical rationale as to why someone does something that is totally personal. Its like me saying why do you shave your head in winter. Because you want to? Hence my point. If it bugs you enough to state these people are 'dorks' and to create a thread then my point is justified. you are being unreasonable (in my opinion) to even question this.

Shades aren't "necessary" indoors, so they're used to cover up something, physical or mental, or both. Should we care? I don't, not really, though I do feel pity for them. I think it attracts attention, and most people understand that they're trying to be cool, and so it usually has the opposite effect.

Of course there's an exception to every rule.

Dark shades are cool. I wear them all the time.

You can stare at people, and they don't know for sure if you are doing so. You can also do that derisive sneer/squint thing, and keep it concealed.

Now all I need is a small, rectangular platform of some kind to hold in front of my middle finger....

Well I for one am taking something from this thread , not sunglasses though .
When playing harmonica live , I have taken to wearing only a man-thong .
This also allows you to stare and sneer at people without notice .
The correct way to do this is to wear the thong with one "spud" hanging out from each side .
I tell you it works , people seem unable to look you in the eye !

Well, you could always turn it into a song like Cory Hart did.

Maintain a nice selection of Visine, Murine and Clear Eyes for your clients...seems to take care of the issue.

Gabriel Roth seems to have a pretty decent excuse: "Roth's signature glasses he wears on stage and in interviews are the result of a car accident which left his eyeballs lacerated, blinding him for 10 days."

If you're blind there's even less reason to need sunglasses.

I always dug these pictures of Scott Walker in the studio. Not just sunglasses but a scarf. lol. He's got the sleeves of his sweater rolled up though so it must not have been too cold in there.
