first snow

Was thinking of the storm, Isabel, on southeastern US, and our overnight snowfall didn't seem so bad this morning. Not that it's any real suprise, but after a fairly nice summer and fall (which has been a rarity in these parts for over 5 years!??!), finally the first snowfall landed, and continues to fall all day. It won't stay around yet, but impends the coming of winter: warm clothing, wood stoves, and long(er) nights on the way.

I actually like wintertime: less traffic/tourists, no bugs (big plus ), quieter outdoors, more relaxed schedule (work mostly), and lots of family stuff. But the end of the warm season always brings a bit of reality back: 6 to 8 months of cold.

Guess I'm thinking out loud here: wonder what the seasons mean to you folks spread across the globe? Here, (and though most northern countries) both solstices and equinox traditionally mean celebration to many people: the longest/shortest day of the year, and represents the turnaround of that cycle. Of course, Xmas and the rest of the holidays mean lots to the reg. working class, but the others: artists/performers/writers etc. tend to celebrate on these days. With equinox coming up soon, i wonder what other's think about the turn of the seasons, and if in fact if there are any distinct seasons for some of you...

I like summer.
Winter for me is humidity, coldness, darkness and slipping tires.
Prefer T-shirts to pullovers.
The weekend shall be warm and I will take a ride through landscapes on Sunday, before scrapping out the cave for hibernation.

The last few years, I haven't had that much of a chance to enjoy the seasons other than the walk to the studio. But Spring and Fall are definitely my favorite times to be outside. In the Winter, though, I can walkt through the woods around the house without worrying so much about the ticks.

As long as the roads don't freeze up (on days when I have to go somewhere), I'm happy.

Snow? Jay where the hell are you man?
I actually dig winter but it's a few months before we see snow here (about 60 miles straight north of kingston ontario). Last winter we got so much that you couldn't walk in the bush without skis or snow shoes. It's easier to see the lay of the land without all those leaves in the way. And winter means hockey which despite my advanced years I still love to play both inside and outside, nothing like natural ice.
Meanwhile looking forward to a nice fall, and all that colour. although it's been warm here all Sept. so far and we haven't had a frost yet, which seems to bring out the brilliant reds in the maples. Still have tomatoes in the garden (yee haw). Take care Logan

About 3500 miles NorthWest of you: Whitehorse, Yukon. Had another drop of snow yesterday, and some flurries today, so I may stand corrected about it not staying around grudge

Just had the last of the greenhouse veggies brought to me today: frost has ended the harvest this year - tho was a pretty good summer/fall - for a change

Whitehorse, that explains it. Never been there, always wanted to take it in, maybe some day. Well good luck with that snow. I've always been a winter guy but if it started in September I think I'd change my mind. Take care Logan
