Genre X is so SHi%%

No forum on the whole of GS is as ridiculous when it comes to talk of Shi% genres as electronic threads. They hate on electronic music that doesn't fit the small genre within a genre they work in! They hate on individuals 'skrillex' who are doing well. They moan about other Genres Pop/Urban..the list goes on.

Seriously are you guys musicians or clowns? Since when has something such as music ,which could be the most subjective topic on earth, been something one can call good or not so good. Ok i understand we have examples of poor execution in all genres but this is based at the abuse an entire genre has including statements such as ' Its just boring and all the same'. Seriously.

I'm sure i'm not the only one bored of hearing 'your' feelings on a genre. Not only is this not the place for that form of discussion but it's also pointless. It should be deemed one of those topics you do not discuss. Religion, politics and Music!

Who are you to tell a listener who enjoys a genre of music what is good and what is not so good?

ok Rant over..loving the moan zone these days. It's like therapy.

Gotta love the Moan Zone. I use to be SUPER opinionated on what was "good" and "shit" rap music (well all music... but rap is my only strong opinion), but growing up has taught me to bite my tung. Sometimes people need to just grow up and realize they won't like everything, but thinking everything other then your style of music or your favorite artist is "shit" is just ignorance.

I still think there are plenty of artist that are dumbing down the future of the world, and for that I REEEEALLY dislike them and their music, but talking about not liking them isn't getting me or the world anywhere. We have to change the world ourselves, not hope someone else does it for us.

Why would you let a differing opinion bother you ? Why does everyone have to have the same opinion ? Why is their moan not allowed, but yours is ? BTW, I don't think it's *possible* for an entire genre to suck, but the more specific one's opinion the more they should be entitled to it.

That's a fair point - As devils advocate i have to accept it despite my point being that regardless of opinion - sweeping statements on such a subjective matter are pointless. That being said..you're actually right..that is my opinion.

My lord i think i've managed to confuse myself...again.. haha!

I just knew before clicking this has to be about protecting the precious Skrillex

Kid's talented I give him that. What I don't fully appreciate is what he is doing with his talent.. although he has some cool tricks up his sleeve.

I couldn't care less about Skrillex. Personally i like his stuff but im no 'fan'. This is more a general statement around music. It's subjective - that's the point

Every genre will have it's geniuses and it's posers. Mosts artists won't fall evenly into either category, and a few rare ones will alternate between the two. For me, in general I don't care much about the individual artist, and I don't really care about the genre. Everyone will have their successes and their failures, and every culture has it's high and low points. What I care about is whether something is musically effective.

People who post music that they don't like aren't thinking through how the internet actually works. Let me give you an actual example...

There was a thread (on another forum) where some guys were slamming a particular group really hard. They posted some links to some youtube videos of that group. That had the following results:

1) I went to youtube to watch the videos and by doing so, upped the number of viewage ratings hits the videos by the band got.

2) Unlike the people who made fun of the band, I liked the band, so I gave the video a thumbs up which increased the band's ratings even more.

3) I looked at some other videos by the band since I liked the first 2 tunes linked. Again, just by looking, I raised their YouTube viewage stats, potentially increasing the band's visibilility and popularity. Overall, the band's odds of getting on the YouTube homepage went up, thus furthering their potential visibility and popularity.

4) I decided to go to Amazon.com and buy the MP3's of the tunes that I liked by the band the dudes were making fun of at the forum. I spent 2 bucks instantly and downloaded the tunes, thereby supporting the band and upping their stats on Amazon.com.

5) I searched Amazon.com for other material by this band that supposedly sucks.

6) I came back to the forum and told other people that I bought the tunes and that I like them; encouraged other people to check out some of the tunes and mentioned a good tune they had left out of their critic's assault. So now other people might go and buy the tunes.

THE END

So in 6 quick easy steps, people making fun of a tune actually promoted it, got the band paid, and helped spread the word about the band. So the moral of the story is...

...don't be a dumb-ass.

I think I'm going to market my next release entirely through negative comments on Internet forums, and I'm not going to put anything here. When someone on GS posts a link saying how much I suck, I'll know I've won.
