broke my new $500 Midi Controller

My Novation SL MK II 61 key controller fell and broke. I had it for less than a week. It should be repairable by replacing the keybed, but after taking it apart I don't think I want to attempt a repair.

This comes at a time in my life when things are perhaps not going so well for me. I am unemployed despite graduating summa cum laude with an electrical engineering degree. I think of myself being intelligent and talented without enough of an outlet.

I suppose I will have to decide what to do. I think I just will buy a second one so I can get on with my life and maybe try to sell what I have for a small amount of money on ebay.

Anyway, I guess I'm posting this because it might be, as people sometimes say, "therapeutic".

I've also found that destroying things (especially electronics) by throwing them into the ground can be quite therapeutic, but you've kinda already done that so I don't know. Can't help, sorry.

Usually it's 30 days return? Can't you return it?

Do you think they'd let me do that when I broke it?

All returned or exchanged items must be in new condition, in their original box, and must include all packing material, blank warranty cards, manuals, and all accessories.
I'm an honest person and I'm not going to claim the damage was done in transit. I suppose I could request an RMA with reason "other" and answer no to "Is the item in the same condition as sold?" and see if they allow it.

Contact the company, not the store (well try the store too, but company would be the next best bet). Most companies have anywhere between a 14-30 day and a year warranty. It is very possible they will fix it for free, and if not for free, at least a hell of a lot cheaper then buying a new one.

Wow Thex, sorry to hear about your situation!
That sucks and i'm sure is salt to the unemployment stress/ wound.
(On second thought, start a metal band called Stress Wound...I digress).

Hang in there!! The roller coaster will swing up again

Also some credit card companies have some form of "insurance" on items bought with their card. I know American Express offers such a service.

Also, if you have a concern AMEX will work with you to get a return done should the store refuse. I believe they extend 30 day return policies to 90 day somehow. I always use AMEX on purchases I want protected, of that seem dodgey for one reason or the other.

Of course check what options your card offers and re-check what I stated about AMEX as different cards may offer different incentive packages or services.

Best,
Lex
