The long & short of it is stick to the topic and don't crap on other people, others' work or moan and groan - save those things for this sub-forum.

My 2 infractions were about complaining about a "US only" mentality which I found extremely offensive and quoting my 11 year old son, in fun.

Lessons learned.

I dunno you guys... I was talking to Jules yesterday and it was mentioned that I hadn't gotten an infraction in months... either I'm slipping or you guys are taking the bullet.

The line was: "I'm not really an asshole... I just play one on the internet"... which is an extrapolation of a Robert Young [he played "Marcus Welby MD"] line in some TV commercial where he said "I'm not really a doctor... I just play one on TV"... and then proceeded to hawk some kind of over the counter pain medication [or something like that].

Getting your quotes straight is kinda important Glenn... otherwise you end up with fodder for an erroneous response from the commentators attached to Fox News.

Peace

Zero points is slightly higher than no points.

I got an infraction for posting on the Vverb thread that I had one for sale. Mods deleted my post. However, I have seen mods do the same thing!!!!!, and other members of GS too. Their post didn't get deleted and I am sure they didn't get an infraction either.

An infraction never gets old ? Does that mean it never expires ?

I watched an alchemist once turn an iron infraction into gold... this was in a previous lifetime, though.

There are a couple sub forums which have their own culture (Electronic Music is one, Australia/NZ is another...) and at the moment they have a subset of rules which don't necessarily apply to the rest of the forum, so that may be what you saw. FS posts in threads in So Much Gear, High End, Low End, Music Computers, Post Production etc are definitely not allowed.

We can't be everywhere, so if you see something you think breaks the rules, the only way to definitely bring it to our attention is to report it. We do stumble across stuff sometimes in our own daily forum explorations but don't think that you were singled out. There are almost 5.9 million posts in almost 535k threads and almost 160k users at the time of writing this - we're not omniscient, and we're not singling anyone out.

It's also worth noting that you did not receive an infraction for that incident, you received a "warning" - those are two very different things.

Some of these infractions seem daft, no point in getting overly anal about things. End of the day this is a forum and boys and girls will be boys and girls, it's Gearslutz not Dictatorslutz..

It's fine restricting things if they get out of hand.
