Other great things about the La's was that while everyone was raving about their album, in interviews they kept on saying how much they hated it.

Slight There's She Goes vibe on this one.

Couldn't agree more with what's been said. I'm based in Leeds but gig pretty frequently in Manchester and it is noticeable how much harking back to that period goes on. I'm old enough to remember all that stuff the first time around. It was deeply uninspiring then and remains so now. You've got to remember a lot of that scene was about the drugs and self-aggrandisement. For an outsider looking in it offered little. There's not a lot of actual music or musicianship in all that.

What I find most disturbing is how some of this stuff is held up as some sort of apogee of the producers art! Give me a break!

I should add that this looking back trait is not unique to Manchester as a trip to their nearest neighbour will confirm. It's more an English disease overall.

Every song is a song about heroin I think, unless it's about coke of course. Greensleeves, yep, you guessed it.

I love the Stone Roses and Charlatans. But I'm a NY boy maybe I'd be sick about them if I were there.

The way I do it is to click the youtube icon on the reply bit, then paste in a copy of the code of the video you want from the top line on the youtube page, but deleting everything up to " http://www.youtube.com/watch?v= "

OP, yeah i know what you mean but so much great music came from that time.. i agree lets not do it again, but a return to classic songwriting is needed..

CAST... er, what you on about!
Cast were and are still a blinding band thank you very much, i love the La's but in some ways Cast were better..

Heroin?? Manchester scene? (huge sarcasm)
It could be about coke too as the lyric goes. "There she blows...."
Could be about both one to come up or down from the other.
