| Lives for gear | Why don't companies make better videos?
Most companies make videos these days to either a) market their products or b) use as tutorials. I'm on a soapbox about this, because GREAT videos will convince me to buy a product every time, but lousy ones will encourage me to put my money elsewhere. 2 videos that I loved: Electro Harmonix Voice Box and The Mouth by Native Instruments (also liked the Melodyne Celemony tutorials) Today I saw this. A very boring video for a potentially limitless, cool product: The Pigtronix Keymaster. I'm NOT knocking the product. It's great. The video? They don't show the microphone functionality. They only show 2 examples of pedal use: 80s-ish guitar and noise. That may be useful for some, it just doesn't show the buyer the true range of this product. How much time do they put into product development? Years? And this is the best they can do to market it? That's a shame. |

I couldn't agree more with you. In this day and age why companies aren't providing well made product videos or even high quality high rez pictures is beyond me.

It's amazing! A great product is paramount, but marketing is everything. It's how you reach the people, especially with something innovative, unusual and interesting like the Pigtronix Keymaster.

Seems to me you've identified an opportunity - I bet you could make some money making videos that actually move product. Now get on it!

| Yeah so they can pay you shite! They just don't get it. Some tutorials would help also.

Alot of the best vids I've seen have been homemade, that says it all really. I really don't like those videos that are like "Hi, I'm Brad Colasanto from ABC and I'm here to talk to you about the new XYZ. It's got...". Thanks, I think I'd get a better idea of the sound/options from reading the manual!

Native Instruments did it right with Maschine. I bought it, and LOVE it. Second that EH Voice Box vid. Bought it because I saw Pomplamoose's singer Nataly Dawn using it. Returned it and got the Digitech Vocalist Live 4 instead (more options for key, etc) and basically better sound and control of harmonies. But yeah... they really need better videos. |

A lot of companies today try and go the cheap route and do the "marketing videos" in house with their own people who are not well versed in video work and with "actors" that may also be shipping clerks. The scripts, the story boards and the direction leave much to be desired. More and more advertising agencies are also bringing their AV projects in house to their AV studio (a closet with equipment in it) where they have some $10.00 per hour intern, who majored in film or RTV, doing the commercials. While they may get some usable footage it does not mean it will be put together well or that it will sell a product. Everyone today wants to save money but when you start cutting out the professionals who were doing the heavy lifting you don't get a pro looking project IMHO.

Strymon did a great job on their demovideo's of the El Capistan delaypedal.. Almost every delaypedal demo i see only shows slapback rockabilly settings, and U2'ish licks.. The guys at Strymon had someone play some really cool indieriffs. |
