I think it's more important to invest time tha money.

ie.
time practicing your instrument(s)
time honing your craft
time working on your songwriting
time playing live

Any idiot with a rich family can spend money. Time is more important. She spent $150K of money on her "career", I doubt she spent more than 5 seconds of time.

By the way, she is not a "musician", she's a "pop star" (and a wannabe at that). There's a big difference.

At best, she has a future in the seedy bar karaoke circuit. I Hate to be brutal but I've heard much better in the live corporate bands I've mixed over the years. Her parents are doing her a grave disservice by trying to "buy" her a singing career, you can't buy talent. It just ain't going to happen and she's in for a great disappointment.

Come on man, if they can make Brit Spears and her hubby K-Fed sound good then even this nightmare of audio can be auto-tuned to pop heaven. And us engineers say you can't polish a terd. *Pshh Time for me to go.

I see your point and while it may be possible to put a "slight" polish on a turd...well after listening to her vocal for a second time I'd have to say you definitely cant "mold" diarrhea.

Sorry..I just couldn't resist.

Sweet Jesus!
Her voice is so annoying!
I could lose a piss hardon listening to her wail.
I would be shocked if any label actually signed her.
Weirder things have happened in the music business.

This is where she belongs:

She's 16, so we'll cut her some slack, but...

a) she's surrounded by "yes-people", so there's very little chance of her breaking out of the thin, shaky, nasal vocal tone she's boxed herself into. I get the impression that nobody in her family is particularly musical,

&

b) I hate everything about this demo "song" of hers. I hate the stock Reason 1.0 keyboard loop, I hate the twiddly beer jingle guitar licks, and by the time we get to "Seen enough of the Real World on TV / it's time to change that station", I kinda want to punch everyone responsible. Now, as I've said on other threads, I have absolutely NO problem with danceable teen pop. Done well, it can be a helluva lot of fun (and judging from that "guilty pleasures" thread, lots of people here seem to have the same opinion, even if ya gotta beat it out of 'em). But this isn't that. It's bratty, unlikeable, and (perhaps the worst crime of all here), unmemorable. There's a reason why the Justins and the Britneys of the world employ the best songwriters in the business.

Great post, Tantrum! I agree with you, I think good danceable teen pop is amazing. I think Justin Timberlake does a great job. I thought Debbie Gibson was brilliant when I was a teenager (she wrote her own songs and played keyboards which I think makes it unfair that she's compared to Tiffany who didn't write her own songs or play instruments).

Thanks!

To his credit, Justin is coming into his own as a pop writer, and you're right, Debbie is/was a real talent (I had "Shake Your Love" & "Only In My Dreams" on 45 RPM vinyl as a kid, and I had a terrible crush on her! I have to admit I bought her Playboy issue a couple of years ago!)

I had to put a Pantera disc in to cleanse my ears & mind after hearing 30 seconds of that steaming pile of poo!!!

My favorite bit in the article is when they said she didn't like the one producer because he made her songs "too bubblegum"

WTF?!?

Yet she had her poor poodles dyed pink for the party!?!?

From her resume;
marissaleighonline.com, Pop,Jazz & Broadway, Singing Styles, Equestrian, Surfing, Swimming, Dance Hip Hop, Dance Jazz, Dance Tap, Dancer, Licensed Driver, Singer, Vocal Range: Alto, Vocal Range: Soprano, Voiceover, British Accent, Cockney Accent, Irish Accent, Italian Accent, New York Accent, Southern Accent

What the hell man???

Maybe if I stopped working with talented musicians & started going after the talentless pop 'divas' with rich parents I'd make some dough in this industry...

Now WHO said American Idol was a good thing?!

Where's Elvis when you need him?

A friend of mine who has Gold and Platinum records hanging on the wall did one of those type of gigs. He was in a rough patch financially and coincidentally, this teenage girl managed to track him down and the parents offered him big $$$ to record 3 songs for their little cupcake. So he did it.

She was actually quite good. Nice songwriting and decent singer. Only problem was she was chubby and her singing/songwriting sounded EXACTLY like Avril Lavigne
