Now, I consider anything that gets posted on VEVO to be mainstream, from an artist who has "made it" and is signed with a major label... I found VEVO promoting this so I clicked it... Nicki Minaj - Stupid Hoe (Explicit) - YouTube When I see/hear shit like this it makes me want to cry knowing this is commercial/mainstream material... Kind of like a kick in the face because this is the kind of music that is "making it" and mine is not (at least not yet ). Even the instrumental is ****ing terrible...

I understand your pain. But even though its not my thing at all, I'll give it 5 points for NOT auto tuning! I mean, this thing surely invites it, yet it sound sooooo much better naturally sung. |

NOT AUTO TUNING!!!! WHAT!!!!!! WHY WOULD THERE BE ANY NEED FOR IT????????????? It's not the song or the sound of it, its the aggression implicit in the entire thing. Who is she talking to and calling a Stupid Hoe? Clearly she fits the category in some ways and I'm sure more ways than I know, on the other hand there she is. Not easy feat to rise to the top of the pop music pile. So, what is really going on here? THE ANSWER IS - WHO CARES, SHE HAS A NICE LOOKING ( ). |

Haha. New mainstream music is really akward to listen and watch. Not a fan of Nicki but there is something really interesting and primitive about her sound.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dKR-iTrnw30 ^ That's also something else.. |

. You guys are crazy. I think this shit is GREAT. It's totally fun, and just as stupid as Love, Love Me Do. Sorry, but I can't differentiate between stupid pop music. It's all meant for kids and teens. Fun, simple, stupid, hooky, silly, poppy, repetitive, nasty, etc. It's all good. It's freeking POP MUSIC. Anybody who tells me Bob Dylan or Neil Young whining out of tune over D/C/G is any better, is smoking crack. You might like it, you might not - but it's the same as it's ever been. Silly, stupid pop music. I can't believe you guys care that much. It's music for 15 year old girls in the suburbs and 10 year old girls in the ghetto. Just like Love Me Do, and I Wanna Hold Your Hand. Stupid, cheesy, poppy, silly, repetitive, hooky, rhythmic, simple, nasty, etc. Pop music. You wanna get your cerebral on - go listen to some Prokofiev. Gimme a freekin' break. .

. And frankly, I think it's HILARIOUS that people here who can barely play a few stupid bar chords, get all holier than thou about one form of stupid pop music being better than another. It's kind of like arguing over fast food chains... Hmmmm, Wendy's or McDonalds? No I like KFC, because they use red on their toxic laminated carry baskets... Are you KIDDING, Burger King is the SH*T - are you CRAZY??? PUHLEEEEZE! . |

I do like some Nicki stuff like "Super Bass", "Girls Fall Like Dominoes", "I'm the Best", but... This new shit is a really poor work indeed, even for generic Top 40. What's will her next step... role in a cheap sitcom? PS. iTunes UK top selling ![]()

If you don't like it, stop promoting it by posting links to it and talking about it. Instead, post links to better more advanced artists and lets discuss them. I don't know what you like so I can't do that for you. But I like Tipper and Shulman and Imogen Heap, Tori Amos, Uberzone, Sarah McLauchlan, KMFDM, Itch Incident, etc. Check out those groups and and the other good stuff that people mention here. Nevermind the mainstream bullsh*t. Ignoring it is a better way to defeat it.

KMFDM sounds like 90s House meets Metal or some such.

Newsflash: Everything is subjective, my friend. This sounds bad to you. Pink Floyd sounds bad to some 11 year old kid now. That's the way it works. It's a generational thing. Wouldn't it be silly if everyone liked the same thing? .

Whatever. Go listen to Prokoviev and have a field day. Personally, I think people should just listen to whatever they like, and stop bashing everything they can't relate to. Do you know how many radio songs have SUCKED over the last 5/6 decades? Yes, there were always talented folks - but also a LOT of garbage. Don't get me wrong - I'm not buying the file, or copying the producer's style, but I respect this for what it is - silly pop music for pre-teens and teenagers. But hey, whatever floats your boat. You're ALLOWED to like and dislike whatever you want. I really don't see why you guys don't extend the same courtesy to everyone else? What's next? We all have to like polkas, waltzes, Grand Funk Railroad and serialist music? Please gimme a break with your music fascism... .

Then why is it on the charts, genius? Could it be.....uh, just wagering a guess here - that MANY people LIKE IT??? NAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW....!! Couldn't be THAT. Because only YOU - and a few other guys here - ACTUALLY KNOW WHAT'S GOOD, RIGHT?? Remember when you were a teenager listening to GFR? Well, newsflash - that shit is mostly TERRIBLE. But what do we EXPECT out of silly pop music? I mean, seriously - if we're going to bash artists here, I mean what's the point? Everyone just likes what they like. .

And yes, it is mostly all the same. Silly 4/4 I-IV-V music with the same boring instruments, arrangements and lyrics. There are a FEW exceptions. But most silly pop radio music is just that - silly pop radio music. And unless you're freeking Mahler, you don't get to bash it, AFAIC. Again, why is it that guys who know a few bar chords and some pentatonic noodling feel like they are the supreme arbiters of taste in the galaxy? .

For a totally unrelated issue I was looking up the best selling albums of all time today - mostly obvious candidates and a few surprises in there as well. But one thing does stand out. There is very little music on there post 2000.

Eh...I like it. And I rarely listen to anything post-2000. I actually find it quite creative. I'm usually the first one to say "new music sucks!". I hate Mumford and Sons and Kings of Leon because they sound too modern. But this actually exhibits some of the creativity that drew me to "classic" rock in the first place. And it's not autotuned! At least not noticably Still neat.
