It's not so bad. I like the minimalist beat and the noisy parts. It sounds like a dumbed-down version of what Dizzee Rascal has been doing for years. She doesn't really have anything to say, but that's not unique, either.

I like this better:

'My First Hardcore Song' by 8yr old Juliet OFFICIAL - YouTube

13,800,000 views versus 10,200,000 for Nicki Minaj

Reading some of the comments, maybe Nicki's problem is that she's not 8 years old anymore, and has lost the pedo bear market.

Don't despair... It has always been this way...

We persevere and walk past it quickly with our ears plugged and whistling the whole time.

The OP has quite the nerve, not respecting the immense talent it takes to vacuously bark over a rhythm loop. Doesn't he realize the undeniable effort, focus and dedication it takes to throw melody and harmony in the trash can !?? ----- Remember : real instruments are obsolete crutches for those with no sense of style.

Still doing that schtick where you sarcastically "praise" all the stuff you hate, huh?

You ever think about switching it up?

Maybe weigh in with an honest-to-God sincere opinion once in a while?

Or would that mean breaking character?

Why don't you attempt to sarcastically demean it (Example: 'Oh yeah, like songs this bad have never been done before.')... are you chicken kitty ? ----- The 'song' breaks new ground in so many ways. One of them being setting the lyrical intelligence dial to absolute zero. The brain bar just can't be set any lower. Also, the 'song' tends to compel one (who respects actual music) to reach for an antidote to the lingering garbage odor. But if you are one who thinks that absolutely anything goes (like serving festering kitty litter as a main course), then you are likely compelled to attack those (who value genuine music - music containing melodic and harmonic elements, which are entirely absent in this 'song' ) who rightfully despise the garbage. ---------- To those with actual standards and taste, here is my prescribed antidote to decontaminate your musical mind.

Men At Work - Overkill (1983) - YouTube

Janelle Monae- BaBopByeYa - YouTube

You are living proof that consuming an 'anything goes' diet of SHIT-Music rots the brain, rendering it lame. The Beatles song you refer to has an actual melodic theme, and an actual harmonic pattern, along with lyrics which (as trite as they are) tremendously overshadow the looped barking which you value as 'great'. And the looped ho-bark you hear, just *happens* to be the *only* feature of the 'song'. There is absolutely no melody or harmony present at all (making it entirely antithetical to the Beatles song you mistakenly and irrationally use for your analogy). ----- What you are doing is blindly promoting a contest of extreme stupidity in the realm of sound - a mentally vacant excercise of dumbing things down to the extreme. The only Musical Fascist in this thread is the one who ardently defends the blatantly *RE-TARD-ED* Crap-Loop churned out by the Corporate Crapfactory, demanding that all who hear it absolutely tolerate it, enjoy it and refrain from criticizing it. Yes, that's right. We must all march along in step (as uncritical zombies), while praising the Billboard crap-loop, or be labelled as 'Fascists'.

Yes, that's right. It is absolute garbage, and anyone who defends it is defending absolute garbage. It's really quite simple.

At least you broke character there for a second, and I'm not being sarcastic.

Just OWN your opinions, Happy, that's all I'm asking - don't shower easy targets with backhanded compliments. Since you seem to enjoy poking fun
at people's screen names, I'll tell you to live up to yours and try a different approach, one where you sincerely and enthusiastically promote the things you love.

For the record, I think Janelle Monae is fantastic. And Men At Work I've loved since I was a pre-teen - they were one of the first then-current bands I really fell for as a kid, and I still listen to their albums. (Colin Hay's solo work is great too.) You are, in fact, preaching to the choir there.

Finally, I don't NEED to demean the Nicki Minaj record in question. I don't love it but I don't think it's the death knell of music or some new low. There are other things she's rapped on that I thought were kinda neat but I'm pretty much indifferent to her.

Recognizing something's right to exist is not the same thing as supporting it. Does this make sense to you?

The right of sonic vomit to exist is always counterbalanced by the right of people to describe it as such. The people who make the error of praising the content and slurping up the vomit have no right to attack those who say, 'ewwwww'. ---------- Why must sarcasm be deemed off limits ? I find it to be a perfect way to sugar coat one's opinions in a socially more moderate way (avoiding the harsh pitbull mode of attack). Do you know how much sarcasm has been employed throughout history, and still now, all over the net ? Do you really want sarcasm to cease to exist ? It generally pops up as a response to individuals who promote unfounded views or ridiculous notions and are immune to reason. BTW, I do what you suggest (providing bold, transparent opinions without the cloak of sarcasm) the *vast* majority of the time. Scan my posts. You'll find sarcasm to be the exception, not the rule. So if you happen to come across a sarcastic post, well, excuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuse me.

I'm have a great experience over in the computers section that shows why things are the way they are:

Just Purchased BFD Eco! BFD vs Superior Opinions?

The first page is about drum synths. Then I got going and by the last page I'm now being called a dinosaur because I think that people should actually be able to play instruments. It's a pretty good demonstration of how attitudes have changed and why music is the way it is right now. I'm now a bitter, 90 year old man according to them.

You may come across as bitter, but I know that in actuality you're really just a tad disgruntled.

And, obviously-- before you became disgruntled, you probably were in some way somewhat gruntled.

Here she goes again with Nicki filling up four bars with seeing how long she could sing for... This song is way too low even for Nicki Minaj-- you could see the teenage fans hate this song a lot too. I was a little worried there Diplo might have produced this haha.
