I was neutral on the whole thing until the CEO of the plug-in alliance told the OP that if he doesn't like it, to stay away. That sounds like the CEO is threatened. If he's threatened it means that something isn't on the level and the OP might just be on to something.

Well, so much for those plug-ins!

Regards,
Frank

Never listen to opinions regarding tape, digital, analog, plug-ins, hardware, software, amp modelers, etc. For every 50 nobodies on Gearslutz that say a piece of gear doesn't sound good enough to cut it, I know at least one somebody who is cutting it in NYC with that piece of gear.

True enough. I mostly attribute it to grumpy old man syndrome after hearing him brag how he only comes to LA packing heat because he's made it out to be some lawless wasteland...

I don't like the new prices at all. (purely on the spl line which is all i knew the price of before)

is it true we can't transfer our licenses, ever? with this new system?

I am seeing almost double the hike from dealer street price in individual plugins..

or in the best case at least 30% more.

so, no more middleman, no more ilok fees, and 30% ++ raised prices.

No, i don't like that.

That's the way i feel. it is nonsense that prices have been dropped.

I couldn't care less if some corporate morons decided to group up and make some money by consolidation and incorporation. Wouldn't buy any product from the above mentioned companies either.

I'm still lovin' prices on lots of things that are now in "the Alliance." Take the Elysia Niveau EQ for instance.

It and some others that cost more haven't increased a single farthing.

I found out about it (the Alliance) when I went to "re-download" a plugin that I had had in the past. After my panic at the concept, I quickly learned everything was fine. Maybe they should have market researched a name less likely to raise hackles and heckles.

Well, I was neutral on the issue too. Still neutral now, but kind of unhappy, let's put it that way. Here is my story.

I ordered one of SPL plugins from an online music shop, which officially distributed their software, in what appears to be PA's "business transition" period (the past holiday season, that is). But the shop eventually couldn't deliver a license to me, since Plugin Alliance did not honor the purchase, apparently saying I should now buy only directly from Plugin Alliance's own website. The price at their website was now $199 (against the $125 I paid at the shop). So after a long week of negotiations (between the shop and PA) the shop had to issue me a refund. As I paid via PayPal with another currency, not USD, I ended up sitting there for about a month without either money or the software, and lost on two currency conversions.

To wrap it up: IMHO, if Plugin Alliance started their new business with a bit more customer-oriented practices and simply went ahead to honor the purchase in which there was zero of my fault (but was some internal business miscommunication created by themselves), they would have got a happy customer ready to buy their products again. (Indeed, I was looking for more.) What they've got instead is an unhappy customer who will gladly go elsewhere for a competing product (already have; thank goodness there are plenty of those). Then again, not a big loss for them, not a big loss for me...

Perhaps another idea might be to write or call SPL and let them know what happened and that you were going to buy their plug-in but because of how the Plugin Alliance handles it's business you went to a competing plug-in instead. Ask them to look into how the Plugin Alliance handles it's business because it's possible they could have lost other sales because of negligent business practices.

That might get some attention. Or it might not.

Frank
