Is this another Ableton Forum or are people sane here?

Hey everyone,

Recently in the past couple of weeks I have been engaged in various "discussions" with folks over at the Ableton forum and, to put a long story short, disagreements have been had and it has gotten to the point where there is basically a YouTube Smear Campaign in which various Ableton forumites are just going to my YouTube videos and disliking them in an effort to exact some kind of internet revenge on me.

These events began basically when I entered a thread and (somewhat harshly) rebuked various posters for being dismissive and making d**k jokes just because they didn't like the music the subject of an article made (Sandy Vee).

In this same thread I also admitted a liking for Katy Perry's music, which brought me much ridicule.

I felt there was much to be learned and discussed in relation to the article but others obviously didn't feel that way and it eventually degenerated into the YouTube Espionage happening right now.

I'm basically asking: Is it worth my time to contribute, share, and comment here? Are we sane over here? Because honestly I am not down with being ridiculed for my personal taste in music and being the target of YouTube guerrilla tactics. I understand the value of humor but if 80% of what goes on here is a d**k joke then honestly I don't want to waste my time like I did over there.

Thanks for reading and I'm looking forward to any inputs.

Levi

I like you way more than the "cool story bro" guy, but I think you should give Katy Perry a break and check out these vibes instead, all I can say is.. Sunshine really gets on it:

Baby, the internet will eat you alive, just put on some sunglasses and walk towards the sunlight..

Up until you posted on Abe's forum outlining the same thing as you are now doing here, it seems a total of 3 people had 'disliked' your YouTube vids.

That sounds like a guerilla Internet campaign to you? Really? Sounds more like your own guerilla marketing tactics IMO. which is fine, do what you wish. But at least let's have some perspective here.

You wanna know what, you're probably right.. except for the factor I didn't really pay attention to the links as soon as Katy Perry was mentioned.

Why do people always pick apart figures of speech? "Guerrilla tactics" is just a figure of speech.

And as I stated there, what are the implications? Every time one disagrees with another we go to each other's YouTube and hit "Dislike"? I don't want to be involved with that.

And btw, how many dislikes there are doesn't really matter when you KNOW who they are and why they're there (their comments identify them)

And why do people assume that I like Katy Perry at the exclusion of other genres and styles? How can one sanely and intelligently arrive at that conclusion?

You wanna know what, forget about it, focus on your craft and let them be tools. The internet is a vast, (relatively) anonymous place, if you let them eat you, they will.

Dude, I'm a member of the Ableton forum and a lot of others, the thing to think when people start flaming you and going on an internet revenge mission against you is this: You've obviously got them so mad, affected them in such a huge way that they've gotten angry enough to start following you around the internet. In this case, I would sit back, smile and think about how much you've annoyed them. Sucks to be them, you move on. It's the internet, serious business......

You know, sometimes a bit of drama is fun and perhaps even healthy, but sometimes I really do just wanna learn and have relaxed sane conversation. I suppose I was a bit exasperated when I wrote this topic, sorry for that

This thread came from the electronic music forum, so I felt compelled to write a reply.
If there's any REAL issue with any of the posts here, just hit the "report" button. The moderators try to keep a clean ship here, we don't allow insults, coarse language (within reason), BS about pirated software, flamewars or ganging up on noobs (and a couple of other things). We like to keep things on topic, since this is the best way to communicate.
If you just disagree with someone, and this ruffled your feathers, post a comprehensive story why you disgree, and if it's going nowhere, try a witty retort, or, even better; ignore.
Since Gearslutz is rather large, and there's all kinds of people with all kinds of interests and preferences posting here, it's hard to find one specific "group think". So.. no, due to the very nature of this place, it's hardly like that other forum you described.

any positive, and insightful contribution, or posts that question something because of a good reason, are very much appreciated.
a relaxed way of looking at other people's preferences does not exclude your own passion about a subject, instrument or musical preferences.
it's pointless to argue about taste, but sometimes it's fun nonetheless...

Katy Perry? hahaha my GF likes it. Perhaps you can explain this mystery?
cheers

WE have lots of crazies here... and I swear a few zombies from the Walking Dead too.

But we get along pretty well, all of us. And if someone's being a "french word for wash" - bag, chances are Fletcher will get to them before a moderator does and he'll strip them bare in the process.

Cheers and welcome. BTW , what the heck is Ableton? I barely have enough time for this forum 1/2 hour a day. And I love this one.

Haha, Ableton is a company known for Live, a daw pretty popular for combining live performance elements with the production side of things

Yeah I got hounded out of a forum once because I wound them up. It isn't nice knowing that there are a bunch of anonymous people out there after you, but like you said, you have to laugh pretty hard about how seriously they've taken it. These people cross the line though when they start saying stuff like "you'd better be looking behind you from now on".
