Thread Starter | Officially reverting to FL studio 10 from Pro :(Tools
Well for awhile there things were looking promising but it seems I'll have to put the Pro Tools production centre on hold for another couple of years.. Considering I have a computer with good specs I thought my system could handle it, but it seems Pro Tools is extremely specific in the kind of system that it likes :\... Overall it's just way too unstable; I'm not in the habit of converting all of my plugin/midi information into audio until I'm sure that I'm completely done with an instrument and in Pro Tools it seems like I have to do that after running around 8-10 tracks of vsts, not to mention editing anything during playback will blow up my computer if I'm toeing the CPU line... Overall I'm disappointed that I have to revert to FL because I absolutely love the control I have over audio in Pro Tools as compared to FL, not to mention some of the vsts I use sound better in Pro Tools -- and no it isn't placebo. I came from the school of thought that every sound engine was the same until my ears developed to the point that they could hear the difference between sound engines (took about 10 years).. In fact, I can usually hear what program someone used to produce their track from the sonic quality alone (not because of a producer using stock sounds). But I digress, it's all unfortunate... My ideal situation would include being able to rewire FL Studio into Pro Tools seamlessly and using FL for drum programming and using Pro Tools for all effects, plugs, audio, and other instrumentation... Essentially I'm going to end up needing a super computer because I'm going to want to run many VSL and East West sample packages on the system as well... In the meantime I'm definitely hoping Pro Tools 11 64 bit will be way beyond the beta stage in addition to FL Studio Mac being fully upright and functional... It sucks when what you use does actually limit what you're able to do, I've definitely reached that frontier for the time being... You know how people say it's not what you use it's how you use it? Well that's only relative to other people... When you know how you'd use something that you don't have you're really just a lesser version of yourself until you get what it is that you want to use. |

Why not produce in FL10 and mix/edit in Pro Tools? Exporting all the tracks then mixing? Not that complicated, and you can always add extra synths later. You shouldn't have to be afraid to commit to a sound. If you're scared of printing something and changing your mind later, it means you really don't know where the song is going and you're second guessing yourself. I print tracks all the time, don't be afraid to commit. If you think Pro Tools is unstable then switch to cubase. It's just as good. And also, I would never use the stock FL plugins for EQ and whatnot.

I co-sign what Chris Lago said, printing is defo the way to go for enhanced mixing and sound maniputation.

It's the source that's the problem, the tones generated by non-native-plugins such as East West samples don't sound as good in FL as they do in Pro Tools.. So even if I mix in PT the original source file would sound better if it was generated by PT sound engine and not FL... I'm not saying I'm not going to do what's been suggested, it's just obvious that those are workarounds. Ideally I would completely write the track then look into printing-manipulation after the fact. Plus FL is a pain in the ass for send and aux tracks, I much prefer the more customizable system in PT for dealing with reverb, parallel comp and anything that warrants delay compensation.. Don't get me wrong, I'm not at all blaming my sound quality on FL.. I'm actually able to get very good sound out of it. It's just me comparing myself to my optimal self, you know what I mean? That is to say, the best product that I'm able to come up with would involve me using PT as a host and FL as a slave with seamless integration... Either way making music is always fun, just could be a bit better if I had this and that.. That's kind of the premise of this site actually, we're all "Gear-Slutz" |

It might be an additive problem but I'll post up a sample tomorrow.
