No genre restriction is allowed on forum. If you don't like the content of a post best is not to reply it. Within 8 hours it will be on the second page and disappear forever.

No. I don't listen to this garbage neither, but we are not here to prohibit what the ppl should or should not discuss.

Moving this out of here and going to have some fresh water now! KTHANXBYE!

Why do you think I post this type of shit?!

Also, since this was moved to the Moan Zone, it no longer makes any sense LOL

Who else would love to keep Pop music out of the EM forum?

Not me, that's for sure!

I see the EM forum at GS as primarily a place to discuss gear and technique as it pertains to electronically produced music. Much of this gear, and even some of the technique, crosses genres. So to exclude even one of them would be a step towards totalitarianism.

My own output of electronic music crosses many genres. My stuff has been played at venues ranging from Goth festivals in Australia to the Holland Jazz Festival to the Eastman School of Music. What's more, I hang out with a range of musicians, from Jamaican dub guys who can't read music to composers who studied at IRCAM in Paris.

Speaking of IRCAM, I think if more people knew what kind of s*** goes down THERE they might be less likely to throw around terms like "cutting edge electronic music" as easily as they do around here.

What I do get tired of is subjective bashing of artists, styles, synthesizers, etc. I would prefer to see more objective discussion about gear and technique.

What the hell is pop music. Define. Is there a sanctioned list?

Me think some people need a constructive hobby.

How about we keep people off the forums that don't care to contribute any meaningful incite to recording instead?

I've learned plenty from "pop" engineers

It'd set a dangerous precedent to exclude any kind of music. I hate pop music today and probably for the last 20 years but every now and then something/someone comes along that you find agreeable. At the moment a few ladies are sparkling; Adele, Lana Del Rey, Christina Perri, tomorrow it could be someone else. A new band perhaps.......

Best to keep your options open

To me, there are only two genres - good music and crap.

True, most pop now is in the crap category - manufactured, not played by musicans, pasted together cliches and forced attempts at singing. But good pop does exist - some of it is superb. And there's also a lot of complete shite that gets classed as alternative, experimental, whatever...

I'd like to avoid the pointless questions as well, the ones where the answer is a variation on "any synth can do that." But avoiding genres won't solve that. If only life was that simple. So maybe we're stuck with the pointless questions. Perhaps a FAQ section could solve this - put all the typical questions in one place.

If they need to know how to make these Synths, Adam Van Baker's Sylenth1 preset vol 3 has everything, from Sexy Bitch to Party Rock to Ke$ha, he has them all in his presets. Just a heads up.

And since someone posted a Bieber pic, I need to contribute this.

Somehow, I think EVERYONE would want to work with Conway Titty.

pop music is everything from the Beatles to Slayer

if it's popular it's pop music. Nirvana, Journey, the Byrds AC/DC, Rascall flatts Metallica
rage against the machine, it's all pop music. It's all the same.
To me there is no difference between Styx and the Foo Fighters
it's all just watered down commercial music, with no integrity

I'd be happy for there to be a "help me get x sound" forum, then I could happily ignore it.

Djeez Chris, man your stuff makes me feel Icky! Although I must say you are pretty good at that icky stuff, and with your drive I think you should get 'there'

but I need something to make me feel human again now.

That would be quite lovely actually. But last time we tried to get a sub forum for something, it took more than a year to convince the mods to convince Jules to do it. And then they added some other reviews sub forum that no one uses.

Maybe if we start a petition now we might get a country music forum in 2013

Yes, let's make sure that the only genres allowed on here are the ones that you listen to while enjoying the smell of your own farts.
