Thread Starter | Have a playlist you bastards!
So I was sitting in my car waiting for a friend to get something from a grocery store, and I was fiddling with the radio trying to find something to listen to. Theres an adult contemporary station around the 95.x-96.x FM range that sometimes comes into reception that I stumbled upon, and there was a song that was playing that I started to really enjoy. The vocals were very similar to a mix between Christopher Cross and Peter Cetera. The verses were rather slow and moody, then the chorus would pick it up with an upbeat vibe. It was a song from the 80's, possibly late as it had a number of synths that sounded like they came from the mid to late 80s. I cant remember the lyrics (one of many faults I suffer with), only words like "Fire" and "Love", so that narrows it down to about every song every recorded in the 1980s by every band ever. Anyway I've spent the last hour in vein trying to narrow down what radio station I was listening to. There arent that many stations round where I get good reception, but I've found online lists of all stations in Iowa, and I cant find 1 Adult Contemporary/Soft Rock that has a playlist. Not 1. And most the websites are utter crap to begin with. Most have a contact email listed so you can request song info, but when does that ever work (I've tried it before, waste of time). But seriously, its 2011. You'd think surely by now most radio stations would have gotten the point and implemented a playlist archive. This is not the first time I've been flustered by trying to track down a song I've heard without any info being given, and its damn near impossible. At least I've been able to track down some nice compositions I've heard on Iowa Public Radio's excellent playlist feature. But not having an archive of what has been played is ridiculous by now. At least I came across Peter Cetera's "Big Mistake" on Spotify while I was trying to come up with ideas, and I must say I like it a lot. |

Nope not it, not even close. Good song though, I'd definitely recognize Cheap Trick. I just dont know how else to describe it. Gotta try running the song thru my head and see if I can pick out some sentences from the lyrics and see what google says. That usually does it. The vocal I can recognize though. Like I said I really thought it was Cetera but I've listened to every song on his Spotify page and its not there. Its a very similar voice though, maybe a bit softer and higher pitched singing, almost like Christopher Cross, but its not him either. |

If you have a smartphone, download the Shazam app. It analyzes the sound of whatever song you're playing against the iTunes library. I've only been able to stump it with really old recordings on really tiny labels....pretty amazing app, actually.

Peter Cetera - One Good Woman That was the song. Just heard it on the radio when I was coming back at work, and the announcer at least said Peter Cetera. I remember the lyric about "you bring the fire" and looked it up on youtube to confirm it. |

Isn't he the guy that sang "Like a knight in shining armor, from a long time ago" in some song in a Karate Kid movie when Danial-san and some broad were going after that bonsai tree?

Yeah it's frustrating when that kind of thing happens, especially when the DJ doesn't mention what the track was. I find myself emailing companies asking what that song was on their latest advert.
