Nightmare Session

I recently did a record for a client. It started out that I was going to get credit as recordist, mixer & producer. (Verbal understanding). As the project went on, I came to realize that Ididn't want credit as mixer or producer because the artist was screwing everything up (in my opinion) by insisting on adding tons of reverb ansd effects to the tunes and mixing voice and his instrument way on top of the mix. I advised him verbally and via e mail that I didn't want credit for mixing and producing. To top things off, he sent the mixes to a mastering chap I advised against, and the ME did a sloppy job. So the disc comes out and there's my name in the largest font on the insert "Produced and Mixed by ******". I'm not big time or anything, but I feel this will damage my reputation. What do ya do? It sucks.

This is incredibly ironic.

Everyone has a stories about bands/labels screwing them out of credit.

It seems like they only want to give you credit when the record sucks.

If you can prove you sent the e-mail, you may have a legal case against this jerk. Or you could bluff him and claim you have a legal case. Get him to remove your credit if there's a second pressing.

Tell him to change the credit to "Alan Smithee."

If you think it is that bad, maybe no one will hear it.
I did a band a few months back with bucket loads of verb and top end. Could be the new sound

Does the music industry have the equivalent of an "Allan Smithee" directors credit like Hollywood?
