#1 | | Guest | Whitney Houston Wasted talent
Man I just listened to some Classic Whitney. Man it is such a waste that one of the greatest voices of this era is in the shape that she is.
Somebody close to her should give her a some type of help because honestly IMO she's taking something from all of us by destroying herself.
Dont know if what I"m saying makes sense, but man it pisses me off to hear the other current "songstress" types without 1/100 of her talent and see her waste it getting wasted.
Same thing with D'Angelo

I'm not really a fan, but her Superbowl performance of The Star Spangled Banner sticks in my memory as one of the best, most inspired renditions ever.

I don't think I would blame Bobby. Could she not leave him whenever she was ready to get on with her life?

From what I hear she was messed up way before Bobby. Perhaps she has messed him up worse

her version of the curtis mayfield song "look into your heart" (originally from the
amazing curtis/aretha collaboration "sparkle") from
an early ninties curtis trbute record makes me think she could have had an amazing
career had she been led to good writers and good songs
she has amazing pipes, no doubt

| I heard of a "Real life" Series on US-TV quite similar to the Osbournes...
...with swapped characters - Whitney resembling Ozzy, Boobby being the reasonable counterpart.

Gads! That is really her in that pic?!
According to Wikipedia... her sister in law publicly called her a crack addict. Geez, some sister in law.

Whitney recorderd a song I wrote with the late Paul Jabara when she was 19 called "Eternal Love". You can hear it on my website www.jayasher.com.
I honestly believe she sang better then.

Welcome to Gearslutz Mr Ahser.

Simply awesome.

Let's make a wasted talent list.
How about Billie holiday?
Whitney strikes me as pretty funny. Her trip to Israel ranks as one of my favorite all time video clips. Jimi Hendrix, Kurt Cobain, lots of codependent junkie types. Why pick on her. Just a glorified gospel singer imho anyway.

Beg to differ on Whitney, folks....
Yes, she had enormous range and technique in her prime (don't know if she still has it), but along with Mariah Carey, Whitney could over-sing a song to death in no time. Melisma until the cows came home, falsetto, gospel moans, all in one line...like mixing with every effect applied all the time.
If she would listen to kd lang, she would get lessons in:
Taste.
Intelligence.
Well-chosen songs.
I know tastes differ, just my 4 cents (adjusted for inflation.)
Best,
CC
