Smash Hits shuts down - a sign of the times?

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/4673136.stm

What does this mean? Could mean many things.

I'm worried that it could mean that pop music just isn't as exciting as it used to be, which would be rotten.

What do you think? For those of you in the US, Smash Hits was THE teen pop paper and kids would buy it in lunchbreak and devour it hiding at the back of maths class. This crap mattered! Does it matter now.. or is less relevant - or are 'the kids' getting their fix through the old internet?

Maybe it's a good sign Bevvy. I have never read this rag, but one glance at the cover featured in the article makes me wonder how much it had to do with music at all.

We have countless magazines in the states that are carried by nothing more than marketing hype, and the articles inside are shallow and formulaic with very little, (if any), substance cover to cover. They serve the sole purpose of staking down the latest fashion trends and promoting the "flavour of the week" bands.

Again, I don't know this mag, and I certainly don't mean to be offensive to anybody who loves it. Yet, one glance at the cover stories in the article like, "What the stars really think of Chantelle" and "19 red carpet looks you'll love", leaves little question in my mind as to why the, "teenagers migrated to new platforms to satisfy their interest in music".

I am sorry about your sense of loss Bevvy, but if the kids ARE in search of more substance regarding their music, then I have to think that THAT is a good thing. peace- Chafe
