A Recording Friend In Trouble

Hello GS.

Terry Manning here, from the ProSoundWeb Forum.

Before posting this, I cleared it with Jules, because this is a somewhat different situation than the norm.

A friend of mine, who for years has been a musician and recordist, has had a pretty big problem. This guy, Matt Barrett, lives in Mississippi, near the state line bordering New Orleans. In Hurricane Katrina, he was hit dead on, and lost everything.

Matt had been giving his time and talents and equipment for free for quite a while to the musicians of the area, as he documented and recorded the local blues and other ethnic music for posterity. Sadly, his life's work was destroyed completely by the storm. He lost his house, almost every possession he had, all of his gear, and all of the recordings he had worked so hard on for years.

Pretty sad.

I didn't even hear from Matt until about three weeks ago, so I didn't really know the extent of the damage and loss until then.

I have posted on PSW about this, and many people there are doing what they can to help him out.

If you would care to read it, on the PSW thread I posted the whole story in Matt's own words.

Thanks for your time!

Hi Terry, I´m very sorry to hear about your friend. I read on the PSW link that Matt may set up a Paypal account?? Please let us know if he does. I live in Bolivia and have no gear to spare, but I would definetly chip in with some money.

I´m a huge fan of your work by the way. Let us know.

Edit.... ok I kept reading, and apparently there is a paypal account through his website. great.

Wow, guys. thanks so much.

Jose, the email address which does work for Matt's Paypal account is:

mattbarrett@indiewarehouse.com

I can't use Paypal myself here from The Bahamas (PP only allows certain countries to sign up, and we're not one of them as yet), but it looks to me like you just go to their site and navigate to the "Send" section, and put in that email address. I'm told that works.

e-cue, thanks, that's very kind of you!

Best regards,

Terry

NB:

This just in from Matt.

He has been able to post a web page that relates his thanks to you all, and that also shows photos of the damage.
