The Music Business Would Be Better Without

My humble list

1. Ashlee Simpson
2. Autotune (goes hand in hand with #1, get rid of one, the other dissappears)
3. POD (does a harsher guitar sound exist?)
4. The Loudness wars (please, take it down a notch and let the consumer crank it)
5. Avalon Compressors (common, is this thing on)
6. Focusrite pres (i guess they're ok if you need to something to sound distant and small)

If anyone has anything they would like to add to this list, feel free

*sigh*

Every year I hear the same tired rants about The State Of Music As We Know It (tm), and every year it's the same obvious potshots taken at the same easy targets (Antares/Ashlee/Clear Channel/L3/check all that apply).

And guess what? Every year I discover a fresh batch of new music that I really love, and I get excited & inspired all over again.

No disrespect, syntheticrhyme, but a better use of your energy would be honing your craft and/or making the kind of music that you want to hear yourself.

YES! Finding great new music. It takes some work, but when you find it, it makes reminds you why you LOVE music so much. I love finding new artists especially when they make a lasting impression like DOVES, MARJORIE FAIR, RILO KILEY, SIGUR ROS, ARCADE FIRE, SUFJAN STEVENS, INTERPOL, and JOHN VANDERSLICE....

All of this is relative.......annoying but relative. Without the crap, the good can't exist.

At the same time, if Led Zeppelin or Jimi Hendrix (to name a couple out of MANY) were our current chart-toppers, I'm guessing other artists would try a lot harder to be relevant. Either that, or we've have 10 million Zeppelins and Hendixes running around.......and quite possibly, find ourselves right back HERE!

I'm gonna take a leap of faith and not go with the latter!

In all seriouness, that level of quality has escaped us, for the moment. But that doesn't mean there isn't great stuff out there to be discovered!

- "Soft" Rock
- People trying to rehash the 70's.
- Arguing about whether something sounds "vintage" or not.
- Pretentious assholes.
