Crappiest songs currently on radio

Anyone heard that song "Laffy Taffy"? That has to be one of the shittiest songs in the history of mankind. Whoever is responsible for that should be dragged out into the streets and shot.

Hands down "Holla Back Girl."

It's barely a song, just a beat with some scantily clad chick (Gavin should shove a copy of Tragic Kingdom down her throat...an LP COPY) saying how she "Ain't no holla back girl." Uhhh...hello? You're shaking your ass in my face? And you "ain't no holla back girl?"

So, this is your shit? It sure smells like it.

rock aint dead
Radio is dead , has been for awhile
There is alot of good stuff out there
You have to search a little deeper and avoid the void of marketing
Radio is useless except for weather and traffic

It is the rythm of the vocal... it has a swing, and everybody loves triplets.

Also, the lyrics are clever ("I'm just a notch in your bedpost, but you're just a line in a song" is a damn good one-liner), and the whole arrangement chugs along nicely (the switch into half-time Zep drums on the chorus is a nice touch, ditto the barely-there acoustic piano in the second verse). I find pop-punk to be played out at this point, but it's nice to hear this type of band attempting to be at least a little bit different.

I live in Switzerland... everyone speaks funny on the radio and I cannot understand it, so I don't bother.

Actually, thinking about it, I don't own a radio.

I will second the Fall out Boy sentiment..

Songs are just way over played. The band looks like they would be better in an art school or on that tv show about Runway fashion design.

Just no taking them seroiusly.

Gwen Stefani... Go back to doing rock..

I heard a song by that chick "Rihanna" today. It was awful. When are people gonna realize than "rhythm and blues" is NOT hiphop-in-disguise bullshit but in fact stuff like The Faces??

Just to clarify:

I was referring to pop-punk as a genre. And I really couldn't care less what the band look like - twenty years ago it was leather and spandex, now every white rocker dood has the messy dye job/Buddy Holly glasses/vintage T-shirt ensemble (and this, too, shall be considered just as uncool in two decades' time).

I enjoyed "Sugar, We're Goin' Down" enough to buy it as a download from the iTunes music store, but Fall Out Boy are not the kind of thing I need a whole damn album of.

You're right about Gwen Stefani, though, she just doesn't cut it as a wannabe hip-hop diva.

The Faces? Are you sure? If we're talking vintage funk & soul, I can think of a dozen artists that would go higher up the list. Just sayin'.

thumbsup I've been saying exactly this for several years now. R&B today isn't "rhythm and blues" at all. Problem is, hip hop is so big (embraced by many cultures world-wide) that R&B has to ride on its coat tails in order to survive. Hence........all the "hip-hop/R&B" crap. R&B needs to regain its own identity. But sadly, I don't see this happening in the near future.

Sorry for deviating a bit from the original subject. I don't listen to radio much anymore. I'm still bumpin' Bloc Party's Silent Alarm, Fiona Apple's Extraordinary Machine, and some worthy others like Kanye and System Of A Down. Patiently waiting for Outkast.

BTW, every once in a while, a song that's so unbelievably simple (like "Laffy Taffy"), comes along and gets uncut play. Remember Afroman or even that chick Khia........yeah, "My neck, My back"?

Funny enough, I can forgive those more easily than the repetitious, monotonous, sound alikes radio chooses to rotate. At least no one is stupid enough to copy the Khias and Afromans. They come in, go out (forgotten), and that's it. But to be bombarded by 10 million Jay-z's, an equal amount of wannabe Beyonce's, or the "usual ingredient" Pop/Rock (or Punk) stuff........leaves radio VERY uninteresting.

There! I have vented!

Actually, no, that was well put. I'll happily take "Pon Di Replay" over "With Arms Wide Open" any day of the week!

Granted, the Faces aren't the biggest RnB band but they're at least RnB - real RnB. There's dozens other too. But most crap on the radio nowadays being labeled as RnB IS NOT the real thing. It's just hiphop with a singer doing a little singing inbetween the rapping.

By the way, Fall Out Boy are not big anywhere else than in America. Just to clarify. I call that genre "diaper punk".

Man, I saw the Laffy Taffy video last night on MTV. What a joke. I've never seen so many "hoes" watering each other down with hoses at the same time before. Nor have I ever seen that many football jerseys and platinum neck chains.

That's a good description of "Laffy Taffy" (so long as you put shitty in there as well).

I think Holla Back Girl, is one of the best pop songs out there right now, flame on me now!! But first.. show me a tune YOU MADE that´s catchier and fun to listen to, that so many people love. Everytime that songs comes up in a club people go crazy. Pure genious.. plus, the structure on that thing breaks many ¨laws¨ and works. The neptunes did it right ? after hearing this I understood why they charge 100k a tune, and people pay them.

I liked it the first time I heard it, when Toni Basil recorded Hey Mickey.

Yes indeed, purely 'Hey Mickey'-esque rendition as it's foundation. I'm pretty sure people.........well, I PRAY people knew that. But to be fair, Gwen made no attempts to hide the fact that she borrowed quite a bit from the eighties. And I think she paid homage to Toni Basil.....look at the video. The theme (cheer leading) of 'Hey Mickey' is implemented. You could also clearly hear Madonna's influences on the album as well.

Someone stated earlier in the thread that she should go back to rock, if my memory serves me right. I think 'Love, Angel, Music, Baby' was just an itch she needed to scratch. I mean, No Doubt's last release was Rock Steady.....remember? Not their usual offering at all, very dancy.

Just my .02 cents, if anybody cares!
