I'm sorry to hear that you had to leave the place you love... I've been there with my wife/fiance at the time. I had big dreams of being the best guitarist in the world and moved to Manhatten to fully pursue that dream, only problem was that I met the woman that I was going to marry here in AZ just months before I left.

I had an awesome time playing in the jazz clubs all night every night and even had the opportunity to play with some of my heros like Wynton Marsalis... I was living on the 26th floor of a beautiful skyscraper a couple blocks from where the WTC once stood and I felt so torn because I was starting to get everything I always wanted but missing my girl like crazy.

I brought her out to visit a few times but things were WAY too tense with the inter-racial relations thing. She's black and I'm white, and everytime we stepped out for a nice evening on the town or a shopping trip I felt like I had to be on guard for my life. I never felt it by myself while I was there but the prejudice and racial tension there was astounding. Needless to say she didn't enjoy herself and to tell the truth I didn't really enjoy myself much either, norrowly avoiding several street fights and all. So I had to decide, the most beautiful girl in the world or NYC. So here I am.

The odd thing is that now she wants to move to Nashville. AZ is dead for the type of music I do and Nashville is the Gospel/Christian hot spot. I'm seriously considering it.

Sorry to tell you half my life's story but this is really something that's on my plate right now. So what's Nashville REALLY like? I'll go check it out soon, but I've heard good reports from producer/songwriter friends of my who are having a lot of success there.

If you're into the CCM thing, you'll do great. My non-country native status and associated frustrations notwithstanding, there are multitudes who've relocated from places of much higher renown, and seem to truly love it.

I've been on the subway or just walking past the wrong folk and have been violently harrassed (13 years ago) by black men not digging seeing a black woman with me. one black eye a scar on the hand and some bad memories. NY ain't like it is on TV! I havent seen it in 8 years, they say it's changed alot but some things don't change so quickly.

Yep, New York. There was zero racial tension when I was by myself but black men (especially in groups) turned into the worst most violent racists at the very sight of us. We're mostly treated with mild neglect here in AZ by the racially inept. I can live with that.

That's great news. I'm looking forward to a visit soon. Perhaps I'll start another thread outside of the moan zone.

I forgot to mention that it was SOOOO worth it to move back to AZ. I started focusing on producing and really found my true calling there, which I might not of done if I had stayed in NY. Plus I have an AWESOME relationship with my wife and that matters way more than my location. I just want to encourage you gpcramseysoral, I know it sux right now but I really do believe that everything happens for a reason.
