Stones night on American Idol????

Wow, I never watch this stuff, but stumbled across it and couldn't bring myself to change the channel. It was like driving past a horrible accident on the side of the road, I didn't want to look at what was going on, but I had to. It was as if some uncontrollable primal urge temporarily took over my decision making process.

First painful observation -

How horrible is the American Idol band? As I was watching, I thought about taking a stroll up to the Starlight deck to see if the shuffleboard tournament had started. Maybe I would be invited to have dinner with Capt, Steubing tonight, or follow Gene hackman up the inverted Christmas tree to safety when all others thought we were crazy. If they keep at it, maybe they can get off the cruise ship circuit and get a good steady gig at a holiday inn. I know these guys have to learn a lot of stuff every week, and come up with shorter, different arrangements in new keys, but you might as well have just thrown a couple of those kids under a bus. Just once I would have liked Randy or Simon to have said "Hey kid, sorry you didn't stand a chance, the band just butchered that song, I'm surprised you even muddled your way though."

The other thing I realized was about the Stones, more importantly Mick Jagger. Although not a very good singer, his delivery is unreal. He makes you believe everything he is singing, kinda like the Johnny Cash american recordings. Thats awesome Mick , you can tell those Puerto Rican girls I am dying to meet them too! How are you gonna hit that big Star Search ending high note that wows the crowd with a Stones song?

What's next, Morrisey night? The girl who hates her dad the most would definitely win that one.

Yeah, I NEVER understood the lyrics to half those Stones songs til I heard the idol kids sing them. I think I like Micks mumbling better than the lyrics. I never even noticed he was mumbling cause it just sounds so RIGHT.

Crazy, I heard words last night I never heard before.
The UK girl last night was HORRIBLE, anyone in the top 12 could sing better than her, she was hot but cannot sing. Thats all it takes in the Industry these day, you just got to look good, talent doesn't matter.
Guitar tone was not good either, hell Casey was better as a idol.

There's a great scene in the movie jumping jack flash where for plot reasons not worth going into Whoppi Goldberg has to to figure out the lyrics to the titular song... she's says "I was raised by two lesbian hags? help me out mick"! Apparently the real lyric was "I was raised by a bearded hag". Who knew? I think I liked it better when I didn't know the lyrics.

The real lyric to Jumpin Jack Flash is "I was raised by a toothless bearded hag"

One of my other favorite all time bad rock star movies of the 1980's is The All Nighter starring Susanna Hoffs of The Bangles. Second only to Copacabanna starring Barry Manilow as Tony the main character of the song.

Both films - which I saw in their entirety were easier to sit thru than Stones night on American Idol.

What I hate about Idol (my gf like to watch it, so I watch with her sometimes) is how low the band is compared to the singers. I know they're being judged on their vocals, but it's a little ridiculous.

American Idol

I watch American Idol; and I think Crystal is one of the best singers on the show; she has a blues or folk sound to her voice, and is naturally a good singer..

I agree but this is mainly a teen show and I don't think she will make it, if she does she want sell. I'm getting tried of her playing the damn guitar every week, why can't she sing w/o it ? is she trying to cover up her fat?
I have other favs that will go far like Casey.
