Yeah, but is the SM7c better than than the b without the transformer? I did a null test and the residual sounded like my SM57x .

Also, what should I sing into it (please provide lyrics)...

Did michael jackson really use it to record thriller or is that just a myth, will I sound like him if I use it? Cos i really wanna be the next MJ. I agree with princeplanet, it sounds identical to my SM57 if you take the wind shield off. I heard you need 300db of gain to get anything out of it

I recited Thriller into mine and it made me sound like MJ

I could even dance a bit better for about 20 minutes.

I'm not buying until they release an SM7a. Seems like it would be "one better".

More like the "Mic for people that know that condensers aren't the answer for everything."

haha upon posting this you made another one!

I <3 this mic!

yesterday I was at the college radio station filming something and they had a U87 sitting there in a room with a fruity loops studio on a behringer board. the mic had a big giant foam cover on a short stand and pointed at the dudes neck hardly picking up much. I was like nooooooo how could you! I pulled it up and it didn't really hold a candle on a sm7b running through a great river pre with decent converter. Man I want to give that U87 a respectful home and put it through a decent chain it will probably never see. I wonder if they know what they have and would take a $300 offer. If I offer to much it looks suspicious but I would anyways.....

the sm7b works on so much and is the first mic i pull out evertime. tried the re-20 also but it doesn't work on as many vocals all the time. can't wait till i get home today and have a few drinks to sing the night away. now back to work and my disgruntle girlfriend...go me.

What sort of mic stand should I put my SM7 on, is there a big difference? Should I take the small plastic mic clip off? And at what height does Bruce Swieden put it at?

a few tip on the sm7 i've found..i'm using a great river and rosetta with it.

small foam pop filter on, height between the nose and mouth, slightly high... makes for great low end and chest rumble. vice versa lower is the exact opposite.

no windscreen sounds like a double hi fi vocal with more highs and very clear for a natural sound.

ride up on it with windscreen all the way for a warm close sound,,,good fro scream and metal.

sm7b clean and sm57 on top, 57 further down the mic where the foam ends and the capsule is at with fx, distortion on the 57. (mars volta heavy singing)

cupping it with the windscreen off can be fun...RHCP singer does this a lot and pulls it toward him.

now that i'm buzzed and off of work time to go play with my GR, API 512c

things i've tested and picked up on production

There is a mic stand made by %$#@&* which costs $999.99 at MusiciansFiend but it is the most musical mic stand I have ever heard! It is so open, airy and etched that once you hear it, no other mic stand will do. It is made of an alloy of carbon fiber and pure 24k gold.

www.musiciansfiend.com

As for Bruce Swieden, you'll have to ask him yourself.

BTW, is the SM7B a good mic for bagpipes?

Ride that mic all the way to the rock and roll hall of fame, just because a PRO like Mr. Bruce Swedien can make it work on a great singer like MJ doesn't mean you can! It's like buying Nike's to break the World Record. That mic lacks IMHO, save up for a Neumann......hey, if your ears love it more power to YOU!

Flaming flamers......
