| Gear maniac | Hey Storyville, I'd say you where lucky to not get arrested for trespassing! You were in someone else's backyard, you criminal!!! ![]() As far as the firearms thing goes, I'd rather be carried by 6 actually. If someone is stupid enough to deem worthy of taking someone else's life, well, let him be brainless. Sad, I know, but I would never carry a weapon because I have no right to take anyone from this earth, under any circumstances. Ever. |

| jumped I grew up in a great neighborhood and no adult male I knew was without a firearm in their home, not one! My mom kept a shotgun, but she grew up on a farm. Better to have and not need, than to need and not have..... |

I know several people who have lost their lives while their studios were robbed. I remember reading about BT and how he was tied up and thrown in a trunk while they took over 100k worth of studio equipment. Statistically, he was lucky to get out of that alive. I have several guns, I've used them to put people in the ground -legally and under various circumstances- and I've never regretted it for a second. Then again, I grew up in one of the worst ghettos in the US during the 70's, so I'm no stranger to violence. I'm willing to bet you've lived a nice, quiet upper middle class existence, and that makes you naive to how the world works in certain areas.

Guess again ![]() I'm sorry, I speak strictly for MYSELF in my comment. I mean, I don't personally feel I have the right to take someone's life, no matter what the situation. I think psychology can go along way, and I have put it to the test, several times, in really awkward situations, that involved hand weapons (ie knives, bats), and armed people, luckily not pointing them around... Crazily heading OT now, so back on course, Storyville, glad you're safe...

| Gear interested | @ Chris Lago. Just out of curiosity, with guns being illegal in Canada, what do your criminals use as weapons? Knives? Sticks? Brass knuckles? |

| Dream Catcher | Guns aren't illegal, it's just that it's harder to get one, and I don't think you can carry one out in the open like this. They have knives usually, illegal guns (probably black market) and that's it. Usually when they have guns out in the open, they are gang members too. But yeah it's usually knives. There was a stabbing on my street not long ago. It was a party that had gone wrong, someone got stabbed 5 times in the back and yeah, cops arrived etc etc. Luckily, my street is a quarter mile, so there are apartments at the beginning, and houses at the end of the street, and usually all the bad stuff happens where the apartments are (I'm in a house). |

| I love my guns. Everyone that owns one should go through mandatory training and a lot of safety courses, though... sorry you got hassled, Man... A concealed carry permit comes in handy at times.

Thread Starter | Yeah, I'm not getting a gun. I walked home tonight as well - I wish a bus ran late on Sundays. I guess I fall into a pretty distinct minority - someone who works very late on weekends, who commutes from the city to the suburbs to get to work, and doesn't own a car. Hell, some parts of the suburbs don't even freaking have sidewalks. But point is, I walked home into the city at night, no gun. I have my brain and a cell phone - hopefully that's enough.

| Bottom line.... don't be walking around at 1 am alone. Anywhere... I live about 15 miles outside of Detroit. The suburbs nearest Detroit are FAR worse than Detroit itself. My studio is/was located in one of these rough neighborhoods, one of the worst in fact. Never had anything stolen, no one messed with my car, but I wouldn't just be strolling down the street at 1am for any reason. Out the door, quickly to the car, lock the doors. I don't really see a gun for myself, but hey, there are times in my life that I wish I had one. But if you are out and about at that hour you are asking for trouble. First of all, almost everyone out that late has been drinking, that alone makes it dangerous. |

| Running and hiding are good tactics! Carrying a weapon can go either way depending on the situation... and what happens when you don´t have it with you? Some basic knowledge in self defense and an alert mind ready to fight or flee in a split second is the way I think it should be. Nobody is 100% safe, thats an illusion. |

| If you had been carrying a gun in that situation, you may have been tempted to use it and so escalate the situation out of all control. Instead you used your head and took the smart way out by running and hiding. That's the danger of carrying any kind of weapon. |

| I'd rather have one and not need it than not have one and need it. On the other side, I've seen people use em when it wasn't needed at all... It's a double edge sword... Too many people get shot around here over bullsh!t. |

Whats not to love? Plenty of German folks love them too. Some of the best times I had...getting my Schützenschnur with all my German Wehrmacht friends...trading weapons, uniform parts, etc. A lot of men, and many women do. It is universal, really. Don't see the problem.

You know the German army is not called Wehrmacht anymore (since 2nd WW). The term "Wehrmacht" refers to the ****s. It's called "Bundeswehr" ever since then. I've seen reports about some people in the US meeting in the forests "re-playing" famous battles in **** uniforms... Must be big fun... ![]() Then again, to each his own, as long as nobody gets hurt. Oh wait, we were talking about guns... Nothing personal, I just don't share lust for guns.

You think you're safe carrying a gun... So when you pull your gun on the one guy who yelled the threat, and his 3 buddies drop you right after, who's safe? 2 dead guys isn't 'safe' to me, it's a statistic. Sure, if you meet a guy one on one in a dark alley, you might be ok... But then, what if you get twitchy and suspicious? Shoot a guy who ISN'T carrying a weapon because you'd rather be judged by 12.... You gonna be able to live with that? Maybe they're all right about not understanding the culture being from crazy rural backwards Canada ... but all I know is that from about 10 minutes of searching on google, I can see that the US has between 2 and 3 times the number of gun deaths (for all categories total, accidental, suicide and homicide) of Canada and other countries with stronger gun laws and a different cultural attitude towards guns.I think the guy that runs away, ducks into a back yard and calls the cops is better off than the guy who gets one shot off from his concealed carry before 3 guys kill him.

I worked around German Army soldiers every day for 5 years!. And Guns are fun. God, I miss those days, shooting weapons, drinking beer with the German and British troops..

| Look guys, I understand that not everybody is into guns, and I also understand that not everyone that legally (or otherwise) carries a gun should; I still think that it's a great idea for everybody (with the proper mental capacity) to have one... I just think that there should be a lot more training and mental prep required to get a ccw/cpl. I've had mine for over 10 years, and I've been in some pretty sticky situations... I've even been in fist fights while carrying. The thing that you people don't seem to realize (maybe even a lot of people that carry don't fully realize) is that the use of lethal force is the absolute LAST/worst possible option. The OP handled this exactly right; I would have done the same exact thing (in fact I have in similar situations), EVEN WHILE ARMED! In over 10 years of carrying, through varying types of sh!tty situations, I still always try other options first. There has been only ONE time that I was forced to draw my weapon; I was backed into a corner had had no other choice... the guy was going to stab me. As soon as it was out the holster, the guy turned and ran, and I got the fvck out of there! I honestly can not recall ANY time in my life that my heart was beating faster/harder; in fact, my heart still races when I think about it! I was fully prepared to do what had to be done, and fortunately it didn't come to that; it was 3+years ago, but I still think about it quite a bit. It definitely is not something to be taken as lightly as a lot of you (on both sides of the debate) seem to think! Anyway, to the OP, way to use your head! Good luck and stay safe! |

but sometimes..it is kill or be killed..and even though I struggle with things I did over there, I know in my heart of hearts that it was the right thing to do at those moments in time. anyway. I have an IMMENSE respect for guns and the power they have to shape the course of someone's life. but to throw all guns to the wolves, to neuter the defensive capabilities of everyone out there in the name of "world peace" (right, like that will ever happen). thats throwing the baby out with the bathwater.
